Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The weather was warm, the food smelled good, and there was a good chance the new folks were a little extra glittery. What else could go into a perfect day for the picnic?

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Zombies," Trevor said like the 'Aliens' guy, but without any knowledge of the meme.

Norman hummed a little and made a so-so hand.

"They're not that big a deal."

He mostly just enjoyed how stupid all his zombie stuff was, after he'd met the real thing.

"Comparatively," Trevor granted him. "I suppose."

"And the people who wrote this stuff have clearly never met a zombie before," Norman added, shrugging. "It's all pretty obviously fiction."

There wasn't even an angry seer throwing a vengeful curse down, in most of them. Who came up with this stuff?

Trevor wrinkled his nose in completely disgusted agreement. "Like those awful vampire books with the bad romance."

That he totally just admitted to reading.

Norman paused a moment.

"The sparkly ones?"

He hadn't read them yet. Zombies were way more his speed.

"They do not sparkle," Trevor said with so much conviction that it was precious.

"Don't they?" Norman scratched his cheek thoughtfully. "Maybe you're talking about the ones with like the vampire bars and random fairies?"

A beat.

"I've only ever seen a bit of that tv show."

It was also not really his thing. The witchy stuff was... weird.

You know, it was a sort of double-edged sword in literally no one knowing the Belmont name here.

"That's a show?" Show it to him, Norman. He'd cry.

"Sure," Norman replied with a shrug. "And the sparkly vampires are a movie. Everything's shows and movies these days."

This was going to end in someone commandeering a common room for a party, wasn't it?

Well now they had to.

"Ugh." Just ugh.

"Don't watch much TV, huh?"

TV was great, Trevor. It was so great.

Except when it was awful.

"Not as much as other people." He didn't get it and always picked the wrong channel. "It's always people yelling at each other."

"... Are you watching talk shows?"

That sounded like talk shows.

"I don't know what those are." He was indeed watching talk shows. Or maybe Fox News.

"It's shows where... people talk," Norman ventured. "Sometimes they throw chairs."

This could still be Fox News, really.

"That happens," Trevor admitted. "But sometimes it's people sounding like the shitty priests back home."

"... Ew," Norman replied. And now he was wrinkling his noes. "Talking about sinners and how we're all blemishes in the eyes of God or whatever?"

"It's like you're from back home," Trevor drawled with a little bit of humor.

"I've had my fair share of flaming torches and pitchforks shaken in my face while angry mobs scream 'necromancer,'" Norman noted, hiking his shoulders up in a shrug. "People are..."

Awful?

"Awful."

"Fucking awful," Trevor agreed. "Never come to Wallachia."

"That bad, huh...?"

Well. That was worrisome.

"The Church likes people stupid and pliable." Which did not bode well for anyone smart or different.

"... And this is why I'm glad my parents never really bothered taking me to church," Norman hedged.

That would've been awkward.

"Smart parents," Trevor said, pointing at him like he'd hit the jackpot there.
