Library is Open, 3/29

Zero opened up the library again today, carrying a box of danishes from Jeff, God of Biscuits', which she set up behind the collections desk.

"Great," Angel smiled. He pulled out his notebook. "I need to research... I dunno. Newspapers back home? Can we get stuff that's cross-dimensional?"

"Well, we get cross-dimensional internet, and I know we subscribe to some magazines from different dimensions, so I don't see why we wouldn't. They should be in the databases. We have access in the library, so you could use the student-use computer." Zero gestured toward a corner. The student-use computer is about ten years old and covered in cobwebs. "If you have a laptop with wireless, that's probably the best thing."

((OOC: I have no idea if this is the party line, because 'library facilities' is one of those things we've been trying to figure out from day one. If I'm totally off-base, some other library person please whap me.))

"Computer," Angel repeated, as though he'd rather she suggested he slay a demon instead. "Okay. Um. Maybe you can help me? I'm trying to get access to real estate records back home. I was thinking maybe the ads in newspapers, but that database thing could be it too. What do you think?"

Zero eyed the student-use computer warily for a moment, then decided she'd stick with the shiny library aide computer. "Come around behind the desk and have a seat. I won't tell if you won't." She logged onto the computer and said, "Right, property records. Where should I be looking?"

Angel came around to sit beside her. "Los Angeles. My dimension. I'm looking for - "

He paused, not really sure how to word it.

"I dunno. Places you think would be good for me to live?"

"Underground could be a thing," Angel said, nodding. "Sewer access would be nice too." He thought about it. "Guess they wouldn't be likely to mention that in the ads, huh?"

"Probably not. I'm sure they're out there, but I think it might be against code." Zero wasn't having much luck with 'underground homes.' "Hmm. I know there are underground homes, I saw a special on them the other day. They're just not in LA, apparently. What about a finished basement? Could that work?"

"Totally," Angel said. "Apartments are fine too. Basement apartments, garden apartments. Right now I'm not too specific. Any handwavy printout of what might be available would be great. Gimme a place to start, you know?"

"Swerval." Zero hit print, and several seconds later she handed him the resulting printout. "I'm pretty sure I got the right dimension."

"Hey, even if you didn't it's a place to start," Angel said. He skimmed the papers. "I gotta admit I don't even know what I'm looking for. Four walls and a roof is about all I can narrow down."

"Four walls and a roof is a good starting point. You might also consider indoor plumbing. I hear it's a good thing."

Angel wrote that down. "How about floors? Good idea or just a fad?"

"Probably gonna cost me," Angel said with a grin, but he wrote that down too. He skimmed the listings. "God. Everything costs so much. When did that happen?"

Zero made a face. "Well, it's LA. The housing market there is mad. Not as bad as the Bay Area, of course, but still...pretty bad."

Angel nodded. "Sucks compared to Sunnydale too. Why can't LA be on a Hellmouth?"

Angel tapped his pen against his paper. "It would answer a lot of questions."
