Summer Camp Wednesday [The Park]

Today's beautiful weather was made for sitting outside and doing craft projects, which was good, because that's what you were doing. A number of tables were set up around the park, each filled with macrame and micro macrame--which was a thing Anakin had learned this week-- supplies: cording of various colors, beads, crystals, and other bits of shiny things (though the supplies were getting depleted as the squirrels kept stealing them), and a few macrame patterns mostly for dresses and other clothing-like items.

Even more worryingly, there was a runway set out down the middle of the area, along with two chairs set aside for judges.

"Right!" Anakin said, yelling into his bullhorn again. "Today you will be working in teams under a one-hour time limit to create a piece of macrame fashionwear. It does not have to be very large--it's not going to be for any of you to wear. The dimensions are provided at your stations, and the models will be arriving shortly."

Anyone have a bad feeling about that? Good.

"This week's winners will win the highly coveted Billy the Bass singing fish--" he glanced around. "Where'd that kriffing thing get off to?" He raised his hand and the fish, propelled by its own power and shrieking Sabatoge flew in from...somewhere.

"...that was odd." He glared at the assembled crowd. "Please refrain from stealing the fish until after the winner is determined this week. Listen carefully for your name and then join your team. You will have an hour to learn how to macrame and then your models will arrive and parade down the catwalk. The winners will be determined by our fashion experts Sparkle and Brooke. Your teams are as follows:

Paris, Seivarden, and Astrid
Peter, Sabine, and Tip
Jason, Ahsoka, and Norman
Verity, Aphra, and Rosa
Bobby, Mitsutada, and Hardison
Liam, Miguel, and Uma
Hannibal, Cristina, and Rufus
Steve, Yang, and Sidon
Amaya, Kitty, and Beaker
Hera, Kanan, and Breq
Jono, Kathy, and Rey
Eliot and Ino

You may begin...now."

And a giant glowing timer that Anakin had gotten from...somewhere... began ticking down the hour.

"I once got macrame skills from a weird weekend where we all traded talents," Kitty said. "That should transfer over to here, right?"

Not how it worked, Kitty.

"An' here I'm just wishing I'd have respected everything Apu's done throughout the week a little more," Amaya noted, shaking her head, because, in retrospect, what he'd covered the store with was not only impressive, but also applicable to this moments. "Still, it's mostly just tyin' knots in artful ways, right? I never had a problem with knots."

She never tried to make them look like fancy clothes, either, but, hey, first time for everything.

Norman was side-eyeing that fish so much.

So much. He'd been startled by it when he came home from work yesterday, and now its fishy face haunted him more than some ghosts he'd known.

Still, he was here, and game to participate. That was good, right?

"I don't really know what I'm doing," he admitted to his team, "but I have Google on my phone..."

"The basic principle seems simple enough," Ahsoka said, with all the serenity of someone who had excellent fine motor control and telekinesis.

And who didn't care about winning the fish. Because it was creepy. And Ahsoka had meet her share of creepy droids.

... Well, it looked like Jono was going to actually be participating this week. Which was... good, probably? He was, at least, fairly deft when it came to tying knots.

For reasons that he wasn't getting into, and also, shut up.

He'd wrapped his face mostly just to keep the flames out of his eyes so he could see what he was doing, and he was squinting at those dimensions, hoping that they weren't for exactly what he suspected they were for.

"I have no idea what I'm doing," Rey said helpfully.

Maybe this was something she'd randomly be good at?

...Nope!

Given some of the other people who were here today, Kanan couldn't help but grin as he looked at who he was teamed off with.

"Hey," he said, "this is already off to a promising start."

...

"So, what's macramé, anyway?"

Paris stalked over to her table with a giant piece of posterboard, already mapping out a timeline for maximum productivity. "Right, so, I know how to macrame because I learned over the weekend, but I'm not great with fashion. I wore a uniform to school every year of my life until here. Skywalker's only given us an hour, so we have to figure out what we're making in the next four and a half minutes or we'll already be behind."

Hi, team! Paris is a little intense.

Wooooow, okay. Astrid blinked over from where she had been lifting up one of the crystals and holding it to the light, admiring how it caught in the sun. So much for just dawdling around and just idly making whatever the mood moved her to make, but she was never one to shy away from simply being told what to do.

All that just for a weird singing fish? Or, what she figured was more likely, Paris was just like this with anything that involved competition.

Then again, around here...

"We could make a poncho," she offered, shrugging one shoulder. "Simple design, and a good way to utilize all the colors and beads and things."

"I must admit," said Sidon, shaking his head, "that my experience in such things is very minimal. I have not even learned the art of weaving scale armor, for that is something typically reserved for the females of my people. But tying knots should still be helpful; it seemed to be most that, so perhaps if we were to approach this from a practical standpoint, and maybe make our theme something militaristic..."

Because, yes, Sidon, theme was the important thing to consider right now.

Ino did actually know how to do this. That wasn't going to stop her from squinting at the whole set up and wondering who their models were going to be.

"I'm voting we just cheat," she said cheerfully. "And steal the fish."

Since it seemed to be the in thing to do this summer.

He didn't seem too unhappy about that, though.

Aphra hadn't been aware of just how badly she needed that fish until it had smacked into Anakin's palm.

"Right, worst comes to we tackle Skywalker and make off with the fish during the winner's announcement."

Aphra, no.

"What's the best case in this scenario?" asked Rosa, who didn't think there was one, really.

Although, was that a little nibble of her competitiveness starting to rise up in her?

Unfortunately, it just may be.

Oh hey, a competition. That was totally better than a festival, at least. Cristina looked around for whoever the other Cristina was.

Clearly they couldn't mean her. She'd only been here for two days and she hadn't signed up for anything.

Poor, poor thing.

“Well.” Hannibal walked up and grinned at Cristina. “At least two of us should be very good at tiny knots. What shall we make - an evening dress?”

It would be simpler than a suit, but there were enough crystals to make it glitzy.

“How are your knots?” he asked Rufus.

He never really wanted to take his gloves off.

Miguel had no idea how to macrame.

He did, however, know how to google.

And if his knots failed, he could always just wrap them up in webbing and fake it.
