Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The forecasts had been calling for rain all week, so when it was time to get everything set up for the picnic and it was sunny and warm outside instead, well, that was hopefully a good sign of things to come.

There were tables set up all around the lawn of the school with blue and gold tableclothes and chairs, and the usual buffet of food (and ice cream!) was waiting for hungry folks to dig in. There was also a second table with nametags and lists to help the new people locate their siblings and roommates.

Once the food was ready and the tables were glittered, everything was set for a very pleasant picnic indeed.

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"It's some kind of internal combustion setup that makes the wheels turn," Kanan replied, shrugging. "It's more like an AT-TE that way than the Smoothride. And last I checked, those weren't made to fly, either."

"Thankfully," Hera said. "Still not conceding, though," she added cheerfully.

If there were any way to make it fly, she'd find it.

"It's gonna need boosters at the very least," Kanan laughed, shaking his head. "And you're going to have to get permission to give it a try. I'm pretty sure they only trot that thing out for picnic days. And it belongs to Skywalker."

Which was possibly why Kanan had enjoyed driving so recklessly in it.

There was a long pause, and then Kanan added, "I mean, I could probably have another key cut before I turn this one back in."

Did bus keys work that way? Kanan had no clue. If nothing else, they could probably hotwire it. Wouldn't Skywalker love that?

Kanan couldn't think of any offhand. Maybe Chop could figure something out...

"I think there's a machine at the junkyard that does it," Hera said. "Or at least, there's a machine with a lot of keys and blanks hung over it. It hasn't got any encoding or encryption, but if this bus is a local thing, it's probably just got metal, right?"

Like their door keys, which were (as she was certain Kanan would say) cute.

"Well then," Kanan held up the set of keys and gave them a jingle. "Want to skip out of here for a while and see if it'll work before someone demands I turn these in again?"
