Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The forecasts had been calling for rain all week, so when it was time to get everything set up for the picnic and it was sunny and warm outside instead, well, that was hopefully a good sign of things to come.

There were tables set up all around the lawn of the school with blue and gold tableclothes and chairs, and the usual buffet of food (and ice cream!) was waiting for hungry folks to dig in. There was also a second table with nametags and lists to help the new people locate their siblings and roommates.

Once the food was ready and the tables were glittered, everything was set for a very pleasant picnic indeed.

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"It's definitely sparkly, I'll give it that," Peebee said, "even if I get the feeling I'm going to be picking it out of everywhere by the end of the day. Wonder what started that tradition?"

She was probably going to love the answer when she found it out.

"Soooooo. What do people do around here for fun? Off the wall definitions of fun count too. The more off the wall the better, actually."

"Well, that makes for a really good segue to talk about AirTrek," Ringo grinned.

"Since that's what I do for fun."

"Oooo, then you're already going to be more interesting than my actual big sister," Peebee decided. "Aside from, you know, not being five hundred years older than me. So, AirTrek! You already gave me an idea of how it works, but how many practical applications of fun are there?"

"Well, if they just had puny little motors in them, probably not much. But the tech's pretty advanced, so they pack a lot of punch. If you know what you're doing, you can basically ride up the side of a building."

And that didn't even cover straightaway top speeds.

"Up the side of a building, huh?" Don't look so excited, Peebee.

Or do. Whichever.

"Just how fast can you make those things go?"

"Well, depends on tuning, and on technique, but a little experience and it's pretty simple to break 100 kilometers an hour."

Peebee . . . might already be trying to come up with ways to use her biotics for that.

"A hundred kilometers per hour, and basically on foot?" She was outright beaming now. "That. Sounds. Amazing."

Ringo was beaming right along with her. "It is!"

"We should totally get you a pair!"

"Twist my arm, why don't you?" Peebee said.
"Oh, you are definitely more fun than my actual sister."

With a laugh, Ringo reached out and playfully grabbed at Peebee's arm. "Oh, don't think I won't!"

"Do you know what size you wear?"

"Ow," Peebee pretended to object, but she had to make a face as she admitted, "No, but as soon as I figure out what the sizing system is like here, I'll let you know, how's that?"

Yay, new things to research! It'd be more productive if she could stick to one or two at a time, but nooooooo.

"Well, if you swing by my room sometime, I bet we can find something that'll fit. When I first got to the island, I ended up getting a whole bunch of different sizes sent from home."

"Sure thing. Which room are you in?" Peebee laughed. "And really, you just had a lot of them sent here? Are you trying to get everyone here into it?"

Which, it must be noted, she was not saying in any kind of judgey way. Because she could get behind the idea.

"506," Ringo answered instantly.

Then she shook her head. "No, wait, sorry. I think it's 406 now." Since, you know, this morning, when she'd woken up to find that there apparently wasn't a fifth floor in the dorms anymore.

"What, did they just change the number on your door, or . . .?"

Peebee trailed off, because otherwise it sounded like the fifth floor had just disappeared, and that was a little bit ridiculous.

"Well, they did change the number," Ringo allowed. "But until this morning I was on the fifth floor. So I'm still used to thinking that I am."

"And now you're not." Peebee blinked a couple of times. "Sounds like this place keeps people on their toes."

Not a bad thing, if you asked her.

"Yeah. It's pretty hard to predict," Ringo said.

She grinned slightly. "You're taking this better than I did when I found out about some of the really unexplainable stuff when I first got here."

"Twist my arm, why don't you?" Peebee said.
"Oh, you are definitely more fun than my actual sister."

With a laugh, Ringo reached out and playfully grabbed at Peebee's arm. "Oh, don't think I won't!"

"Do you know what size you wear?"
