Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The forecasts had been calling for rain all week, so when it was time to get everything set up for the picnic and it was sunny and warm outside instead, well, that was hopefully a good sign of things to come.

There were tables set up all around the lawn of the school with blue and gold tableclothes and chairs, and the usual buffet of food (and ice cream!) was waiting for hungry folks to dig in. There was also a second table with nametags and lists to help the new people locate their siblings and roommates.

Once the food was ready and the tables were glittered, everything was set for a very pleasant picnic indeed.

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

And there was Eric, welcome basket in hand, looking around for June.

"Oh!" he chirped, bouncing a little in place when he spotted her. "There you are! Hello there, June! My name's Eric, welcome!" he said, once he'd made his way over to her.

Well, at least he seemed chipper? So that was something.

"Hi," June said, with a little wave. "Good to meet you. So this is going to be a weird question, but this isn't reform school or anything, is it?"

She wanted to be reassured about that before she asked anything else.

"What?" Eric said. "Oh, goodness, no, I don't know who's been telling you such things but that's not true at all. A little odd, sure, and to be fair it wouldn't surprise me if some of the people here had attended one at one point or another, but this place itself, no."

"This, by the way, is for you. A little 'Welcome to Fandom' package," he added, holding out the basket. Inside, June would find several mini-pies of varying flavors, a Fandom High school t-shirt, takeout menus for the various places on island, a couple of gift cards, and a map. The map did come with a "SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE" disclaimer, naturally.

"Some guy at the airport said it. And this is really cool," June said, poking through the basket with honest relief and pleasure. "Did you make the pies? They look fantastic."

"I did!" Eric beamed at her. "Baking is kind of a hobby of mine." That he took ridiculously seriously. "Which means that any time you find yourself in need of dessert, you just let me know, you hear? Now," he continued, "did you have any other questions? There's a map in there, but if you'd like an actual tour of the island we could do that as well, not right away of course, the picnic is an important part of the 'Experience', after all."

"I don't even know what questions to ask," June admitted with a little laugh. "So .. wherever you want to start, I guess. What's the school part like?"

She was hoping not to be bored to tears.

Oh, no worries on that front.

"Eclectic?" Eric said, looking thoughtful. "And there's not a lot of focus on things like written tests or essays. The teachers seem to lean towards a more hands-on approach."

"Good," June said, relieved. "I already finished high school at home. If I had to sit and pretend to learn algebra again, I would puke."
