Oh, God, this was actually happening. There was an actual classroom, and actual students who would expect Vanessa to teach them things.

Okay, this was cool. She was cool. She could do this.

They were so young. Right, Vanessa, deep breath.

"Hi, guys!" she said, pasting a smile on her face. "I'm Vanessa Carlysle, and this is 'Building Healthy Relationships.' Now, you can just call me Vanessa, I don't think anyone's called me 'Miss Carlysle' in my life. And you might be wondering what qualifies me to teach a class on relationships, which, um, I've had a few? And after some serious bumps in the road, one of them is even working out pretty well! So, I don't know any of you, either, and I honestly didn't expect to get this job so I didn't really prepare for this," oh God. Had she said that part out loud? "So how about you introduce yourselves, and tell me something about you and why you took this class, what you want to learn, that sort of thing? That sound good?" She hoped it did, because she didn't have a better plan. "Who wants to start?"

"Oh, hi!" Vanessa said. "I was wondering what was up on Saturday."

"Yo, that was totally my bad," Hardison said, looking apologetic. "Me'n the outdoors don't really mix, but I forget every so often an' let the boyfriend an' the girlfriend drag me out on vacation an' then I end up half-dead for a few days while I remember why God invented the indoors."

He held out the box of treats. "This is for you, as a 'I'm sorry I'm the worst teachin' buddy' gift."

"Careful," Vanessa said, "I might make you bring me more treats before I forgive you." She took the box, though. "No, it's fine. I had a little shock when my fiance told me he had a kid with the old mayor, but we got it straightened out."

"Your fiance had a kid with Tamsin?!" Hardison asked, appalled. Because, sorry, no Mayor Tamsin did not strike him as the maternal type ~~ahahaha 5th season~~. "Oh, wait, you said the old mayor? A'ight, that makes more sense. I don't know who that is, but it ain't the current one, so..." So it was still less brain-breaking.

At least, it was right now, before Hardison found out any of the details.

"Uhh, sorry you had to find out this way," he added. "That totally merits another box of treats if you want?"

"Oh, no, apparently it was some other Wade," Vanessa said, waving that off. "I think. Something like that. It might still have been Wade with his old face, honestly." He was crazier since all the cancer.

"Oh. Oh," Hardison said, nodding like that made sense. It said so much about his life that that actually did. "Timelines an' multiverse stuff. Yeah, you get that a lot around here."

No, really. A lot, a lot.

"Odds are good that this is one of the few times your man says he ain't do it, he really ain't."

"Yeah, I worked that out. Sort of. The X-guy with his face on fire--Jono?--explained it to me."

"Jono," Hardison confirmed. Then, "Ex-guy?"

Hopefully Vanessa would explain, because Hardison was taking that designation all the way wrong.

Vanessa couldn't imagine how he could have taken it wrong. "Oh, you know, he's one of those X-guys with their mansion and their spandex and their 'Wade, join our cult.' Or he used to be or whatever." She didn't really care about the specifics as long as Colossus didn't show up again. He was hell on the furniture.

Welp, Hardison was still confused, but he was pretty sure that Vanessa wasn't calling Jono a eunuch now?

"I have no idea what you're talkin' about," he said. "Mansions an' spandex an' cults?"

Was this something he was going to have to bring Leverage in on?
