Oh, God, this was actually happening. There was an actual classroom, and actual students who would expect Vanessa to teach them things.

Okay, this was cool. She was cool. She could do this.

They were so young. Right, Vanessa, deep breath.

"Hi, guys!" she said, pasting a smile on her face. "I'm Vanessa Carlysle, and this is 'Building Healthy Relationships.' Now, you can just call me Vanessa, I don't think anyone's called me 'Miss Carlysle' in my life. And you might be wondering what qualifies me to teach a class on relationships, which, um, I've had a few? And after some serious bumps in the road, one of them is even working out pretty well! So, I don't know any of you, either, and I honestly didn't expect to get this job so I didn't really prepare for this," oh God. Had she said that part out loud? "So how about you introduce yourselves, and tell me something about you and why you took this class, what you want to learn, that sort of thing? That sound good?" She hoped it did, because she didn't have a better plan. "Who wants to start?"

Ringo found herself grinning just a bit at her teacher, but she also felt a bit worried. Maybe this would just be an awkward first class, and she'd be able to learn a lot later on?

Some people were watching the teacher. Hyacinthe was looking around at everything. For all that the architecture reminded him of home, upon entering the buildings there was naught that seemed familiar. The lights! So bright and so steady! The woodwork of the chairs and desk were so uniform! And yet lacking in any of the decorative work that even the meannest D'Angeline furniture boasted! The people!

...Who were almost D'Angeline in their attractiveness, damn.

Introductions always seemed to push Ringo back into formality. So when it was her turn she stood up, clasped her hands in front of her, and offered a bow. "Hello. My name is Ringo Noyamano." Her cheeks turned slightly pink as she took a deep breath before continuing. "I signed up for this class because I want to learn how to be a better friend."

How could she make her friends happier? How could she be there for them? (And, yeah, there were a couple of faces that she couldn't help but have in mind as she asked herself those questions. Alluka. Dante. Kathy.

"Can you think of any specific ways you want to be a better friend?" asked Vanessa, who hoped it came off as 'trying to make her students think for themselves' and not 'help a sister out here.'

"Tough luck, you're stuck with me now," Vanessa told her. "Now what could you stand to learn about relationships?"

Oh, god. Roscoe so hated his grandfather for signing him up for this one.

His tone was flat and his expression dryly amused when he introduced himself. "What up. I'm Roscoe, and I'm in this class because my grandpa's a therapist and thinks he's hilarious."

"Well, I don't know your grandpa," Vanessa said, "but you're here now, so deal with it. Like Isbela, you're stuck with me now."

"Sex Ed is a whole other segment of the topic," Vanessa told her firmly. It was also probably one she was way more qualified to teach, but that was another story. "Relationships are not just about sex. You don't have sex with your friends, unless they're friends with benefits. Or your parents." A beat. "I hope. And you don't have sex 24/7 with your romantic partner, probably. So there's a lot to cover."

Hyacinthe still had his few bags at his feet; he hadn't made it to his room yet. If the 'portal' he had taken hadn't dropped him off practically at the front door of the castle, he probably would have missed class entirely, wandering through the town and taking everything in.

Also, he'd never been to school before; luckily an older woman who worked in the office had been charmed moved to offer him assistance and a few pointers.

"I am Hyacinthe," he said when it was his turn, giving a grin and an extravagant 'Prince of Travelers' bow. Because showmanship was important when meeting new potential marks lovers people. "I am Tsingani, and my, ahh, benefactor chose my courses. I believe he thinks he is funny."

Or there was some kind of message here. Or both. Anafiel was clever.

"You know, a lot of you seem to think someone stuck you in here just for the hell of it," Vanessa said, and then wondered if you were supposed to say 'hell' around your students. Oh, well. The administration had seen her resume. They had to know what they were getting. "Maybe there's an actual reason you're here. Something to think about."

Also, she was making a note on how to pronounce this kid's name, because she hadn't been entirely certain if it was just the flower or what at first.

"I am Laura Kinney. I took this class so I could better learn how to communicate with others." The fact she sounded a bit like a computer might have made her words all the more meaningful.

Okay, wow, yeah, she could use the help. "Hi, Laura," Vanessa said with a smile. "Any particular areas of communication?"

"I'm Merrill, and --" She fidgeted a little bit in her chair. "I'm not actually very good at dealing with people. Not only humans, I mean, just people in general -- I think that's why the Keeper signed me up for this."

Spoiler: the lessons were probably not going to stick very well.

"I'm Mabel Pines," Mabel said brightly, flashing a smile around the room. "And as a twin, I know that relationships can be really complicated and sometimes messy but hopefully mostly awesome things! But I also know that there are way more kinds of relationships than a brother and a sister can have, and I'm always interested in learning what other people's perspectives are!"

She even managed to stop staring at the really cute new boys long enough to introduce herself. Be proud of her.
