Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Okay, admittedly, having a picnic at the beginning of January wasn't the best idea the school had ever come up with. Thankfully, the weather was sort of agreeable today - it wasn't too chilly, the sun was out, and there were still pretty pockets of unmelted snow on the lawn.

In the middle of the lawn, a bonfire had been set up for warmth and light--mostly the warmth--and the tables and chairs had been set out to mostly be in the sun. There was a long table with a variety of moddable warm foods, and there was the usual table of nametags and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything set up, it was time to welcome the new folks!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Kitty had two fewer jobs these days, so she was back to teaching and trying to get some sense of normalcy and routine back. She was actually pretty glad to be here, aside from the whole picnic in January thing. At least she looked cute bundled up.

[identity profile] ungue.livejournal.com 2016-01-02 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Laura's first instinct was to accuse Kitty of being here under Storm's orders to follow her and bring her back. A second later she realized how they could've sent anyone else to bring her back, and by the third second she was sure the girl was here on her own businesses.

Which left her... staring, basically. She knew a good deal of things about her, but that didn't mean she knew her, something that Laura had slowly learned over time.

Staring would have to do for now.

It was that feeling of being watched that got Kitty to look around, and she blinked when she saw who was doing the staring. "Laura?"

She had to check, since it could always be someone who just looked like her.

[identity profile] ungue.livejournal.com 2016-01-02 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
The idea of there being someone that looked like Kitty Pryde but wasn't Kitty Pryde didn't cross her mind. Laura had a way to go, yet.

"Kitty Pryde." She'll drop the last name eventually. "Why are you here?"
throughaphase: (about to speak)

[personal profile] throughaphase 2016-01-02 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well... I live here," she said, figuring that was the easiest explanation. "I didn't know you were coming here."

[identity profile] ungue.livejournal.com 2016-01-02 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"You live here."

Well. That changed things. Laura didn't know exactly what had been going on with Kitty recently, mostly because she had been all too focused on not dying, so it was plausible. Further, she couldn't sense the usual signs of lying.

"I did not know I was coming here either, not until very recently." And she wasn't sure she was going to be around for long, but that wasn't important right then.
throughaphase: (curious)

[personal profile] throughaphase 2016-01-02 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
If Laura didn't know she lived here, Kitty felt like there was an important thing she had to ask. "Okay, I've got a potentially weird question," she said. "When are you from? Like, what's going on there?"

[identity profile] ungue.livejournal.com 2016-01-02 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
When are you from?

Good thing Laura had already suffered through time traveling shenanigans. "Hope Summers has returned to the present. Nothing seems more significant than that at the moment."
throughaphase: (huh)

[personal profile] throughaphase 2016-01-02 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ok- huh," Kitty said, frowning. "That hasn't happened for me, so I'm guessing we're a different universe thing. Good to know."

[identity profile] ungue.livejournal.com 2016-01-02 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Different universes?" Different timelines, maybe, but universes? "Alternate realities?" Did she miss something on the pamphlet? She totally missed something in the pamphlet.

"It might still happen, though." It was supposed to be a good thing. "She is supposed to restart the mutant population. Somehow." Don't ask her the details, she was just glad Hope was alive and well.
throughaphase: (saying words)

[personal profile] throughaphase 2016-01-02 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Kitty crossed her fingers, because really.

"Sorry if I'm totally throwing you off here," she said, since she knew how weird the first day here could get.

[identity profile] ungue.livejournal.com 2016-01-02 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that would be interesting to live through. Hope was still a ways from scaring everyone and back though. Laura could wait.

"It is okay", Laura said. She was good on her feet. "Then it is safe to assume you are not here to bring me back." Double checking, you know.
throughaphase: (neutral listening)

[personal profile] throughaphase 2016-01-02 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nope. ...Did you run off?" Of course she had to ask that now.

[identity profile] ungue.livejournal.com 2016-01-02 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course she had to. "I left. It is a matter of time someone might come looking."

Gambit though, she won't see that one coming. "I just needed some time away."

"I vote we up an' move to the nearest desert planet," Hardison grumbled at Kitty. "If we stay out here much longer, I'mma start lookin' for an alot to turn into a sleepin' bag just to stay warm."

Ignore his whining, Kitty. He was from Chicago, he could handle a little cold. He just refused to do so gracefully.

"Chicago's my hometown," he told her. "I put in my fair share of Chicago winters. Why you think I moved to California as soon as I could?"

Okay it had mostly been for criminal-related reasons rather than climate ones, but at least he'd been warm while he hacked his way into a fortune.

Yaaaay winter.

"You're a Chi-town girl, too?" Hardison asked, surprised. "Damn, girl, we got all sorts of things in common. One day I'mma hit up your bar with a proper pizza an' some good hot dogs an' we'll cry about the Cubs."

Hardison didn't give a damn about baseball--at least when Eliot wasn't playing--but some things were tradition.

"Yes, do that, I actually cried a little over the Cubs."

And the next day she got kidnapped to space so she wasn't really worrying about that then.

The only reason that Hardison knew what Kitty was referring to was because he'd actually been in Chicago at the time. Even trying to con the man that had conned his Nana hadn't been enough to mute out the entirety of the hype and buzz.

"Damn right," he said. "Eliot calls hot dogs bland sausages an' Parker don't understand the importance of kosher dogs or celery salt. Kitty, I live with barbarians."

"Aww, Clint, yo, really? An' here I thought better of him," Hardison said, shaking his head sadly. "You ever need someone, I got your back on this one, mama. No child should have to suffer through that flat-ass pizza they consider cuisine."

He was only ever a phone call away and unless he was literally in the middle of a con, he would drop everything and come to her assistance. They were fighting on behalf of the children.

"Why would you wanna fold it?" he demanded. "It ain't a shirt! If you need to origami your food before you eat it, there's a bigger issue at hand is all I'm sayin'."
