Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Okay, admittedly, having a picnic at the beginning of January wasn't the best idea the school had ever come up with. Thankfully, the weather was sort of agreeable today - it wasn't too chilly, the sun was out, and there were still pretty pockets of unmelted snow on the lawn.

In the middle of the lawn, a bonfire had been set up for warmth and light--mostly the warmth--and the tables and chairs had been set out to mostly be in the sun. There was a long table with a variety of moddable warm foods, and there was the usual table of nametags and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything set up, it was time to welcome the new folks!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Chicago's my hometown," he told her. "I put in my fair share of Chicago winters. Why you think I moved to California as soon as I could?"

Okay it had mostly been for criminal-related reasons rather than climate ones, but at least he'd been warm while he hacked his way into a fortune.

"You're smarter than me," Kitty told him. "I went from Chicago to New York to Maryland."

Yaaaay winter.

"You're a Chi-town girl, too?" Hardison asked, surprised. "Damn, girl, we got all sorts of things in common. One day I'mma hit up your bar with a proper pizza an' some good hot dogs an' we'll cry about the Cubs."

Hardison didn't give a damn about baseball--at least when Eliot wasn't playing--but some things were tradition.

"Yes, do that, I actually cried a little over the Cubs."

And the next day she got kidnapped to space so she wasn't really worrying about that then.

The only reason that Hardison knew what Kitty was referring to was because he'd actually been in Chicago at the time. Even trying to con the man that had conned his Nana hadn't been enough to mute out the entirety of the hype and buzz.

"Damn right," he said. "Eliot calls hot dogs bland sausages an' Parker don't understand the importance of kosher dogs or celery salt. Kitty, I live with barbarians."

"I'm sorry. If it helps, I'm probably going to have an uphill battle on whether my kids are raised on Chicago or New York pizza," Kitty said.

"Aww, Clint, yo, really? An' here I thought better of him," Hardison said, shaking his head sadly. "You ever need someone, I got your back on this one, mama. No child should have to suffer through that flat-ass pizza they consider cuisine."

"Thank you. Their big claim to fame is that you can fold it. It's pizza. I can almost guarantee you'll be getting calls to back me up," Kitty said, and she was probably serious here.

He was only ever a phone call away and unless he was literally in the middle of a con, he would drop everything and come to her assistance. They were fighting on behalf of the children.

"Why would you wanna fold it?" he demanded. "It ain't a shirt! If you need to origami your food before you eat it, there's a bigger issue at hand is all I'm sayin'."
