Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I
Everyone might have been getting ready for the fall semester, but it was definitely still summertime in Fandom. The temperature was high, the wind was low, and it was only going to get hotter once everyone arrived.
There were chairs and tables set out around the lawn, some in shady spots and some out in the sun, and there was a long table ofmoddable food culminating in a table full of ice cream, frozen yogurt, and sorbet choices. There were also stacks of nametags for people to label themselves with, and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything in order, it was time to welcome some new people!
[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"There you are!" she exclaimed, sounding enthusiastic and friendly enough to (hopefully) offset how offputting the mask could be. "Unless there's another Maria, that is, but I didn't see one on the roommate list."
She held out one gloved, three-fingered hand. "Welcome to Fandom. I'm Tali, and I'm here to help you get settled in."
Good thing you weren't unfamiliar with the concept of aliens, Maria?

Besides, one of the drivers of the bus had been in a full suit of robot armor or something.
"Hello, Tali, it's nice to meet you," she said with a genuine smile. "Yes, I'm Maria and there wasn't another one of the bus or anything."
Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Fall 2015]
"I didn't think so. I checked the list of new students," Tali said with a hint of wryness in her voice; it was a nerdy kind of thing to do and she knew it. "But it never hurts just to make sure. I hope everything was all right on the trip here? Nothing too shocking?"
Look, you never knew around here.
Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Fall 2015]
"I met a few of the new kids on the bus and nothing went wrong on the trip. I spent a lot of time looking out the windows since this place is so different from the desert where I grew up."
Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Fall 2015]
And usually most of those times, people had been trying to kill her, but that seemed beside the point.
Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Fall 2015]
"It really is. I grew up in the desert and never been on an island before. This is a whole new experience for me." She tilted her head when Tali talked about where she had lived. "Is it rude for me to ask what it was like living in space and on starships?"
She didn't want to be rude, but she wanted to know her big sibling better. This whole boarding school thing wasn't looking to be as depressing right now.

She was still convinced that there was some kind of mistake in all of the signs ans documentation she was seeing today.
Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Fall 2015]
Whoops. She was nerding out again. No need to overwhelm the poor girl.
"That's another thing about this place. I'm not sure how it does it, but it seems to exist at some kind of . . . Conjunction of different timelines, if that makes sense. We've got people coming from all over, timewise. Sometimes even from different realities. It's kind of fascinating, actually."
