Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Everyone might have been getting ready for the fall semester, but it was definitely still summertime in Fandom. The temperature was high, the wind was low, and it was only going to get hotter once everyone arrived.

There were chairs and tables set out around the lawn, some in shady spots and some out in the sun, and there was a long table of moddable food culminating in a table full of ice cream, frozen yogurt, and sorbet choices. There were also stacks of nametags for people to label themselves with, and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything in order, it was time to welcome some new people!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

This was already far too cutesy for Xanthippe. Seriously, a picnic? At a school?

She was wearing a name tag, but she wasn't happy about it.

Face was shirtless, covered in body glitter, and had his nametag (with the 'Garik' crossed out and replaced with 'Face') stuck to his glittery, bare chest.

"Xanthippe?" he called out. "Looking for a Xanthippe?"

But was he pronouncing it correctly?

... As if that mattered. She'd responded to Xanadu at least once in her life. She was conditioned to react to things that sounded at least vaguely like her name, anyway. "Yes?"

Lorrdians could pronounce sounds most other humans couldn't, there was a decent chance he was.

Face came over, grinning. "I'm Face," he said. "I'm supposed to explain how things work around here."

Okay, her natural instinct towards everything here was to act bratty, but apparently the shirtlessness put at least momentary wrench in that.

"Hi, I'm Xan," she said, even managing a little smile. "And, really? It's a school, what else do I need to know?"

Face was glad his shamelessness could be of use. "It's kind of a strange school," he said.

The shamelessness also kept her from asking about his scar, which would have otherwise been an inevitability. Which would have been bad, because she would have done so rudely.

"What kind of strange?" she asked. "Everyone suffers from terminal quaintness?"

The guy from another planet was probably not the one to talk to about quaint.

"More things like the radio squirrels, and the gremlins, and some of the teachers being a bit crazy."

Only some of them?

Yeah, that was definitely what she was supposed to take away from that. But come on, didn't everyone like have Spotify now?

Like something actually happened here. What even.

"What, do people sometimes trip on all the stairs and that needs to be reported?"

To be fair, some days there wasn't very much news.

"All sorts of things happen," Face said blandly. "The squirrels seem to find tripping boring though."
