History of the Ancient World class

History of the Ancient World
TTh 12:30-3:30 pm

Although he was rushed, Seimei was the picture of calm and relaxed as he collapsed gracefully onto his pillows. The scroll was rolled out and his brush moved quickly over the paper to write out the class discussion question.

Homer’s The Iliad profoundly inspired Alexander. He carried a copy of The Iliad with him into every battle and tried to live by its theme of “might tempered by mercy.” Discuss what this theme means and give examples of how he tried to apply it in his rule.

See [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh_ooc for OOC commentary on History Classes.

My most profound apologies for post THIS one so late. Feel free to use the next few days to comment to count for attendence. I'll keep up with this on Thursday and get back on track

Alanna bites her lip and re-reads the prompt a few times before raising her hand.

Alanna blinks and inwardly groans. Just like home. She returns to trying to think of something intelligent to say about the prompt.

*Hotaru peers at Alanna, then smiles.* Perhaps we could work on reading it together? I haven't read any English literature yet. *smile*

*passes in paper with ends up on a riff about all those poor women in Troy and how no mercy was given to them, ZOMG*

::remembers the time she and the Doctor met Alexander::

::considers telling the class about it, and raises her hand::

::thinks better of it, and puts her hand down::

Draco smiles, thankful that the Illiad was one of the few muggle books he has read. Standard issue with the whole Death Eater gig. That and cool little green boxers for the men. His fathers idea, he'll admit. He writes down a paragraph about the theme of of the Illiad in great detail, hoping the details on theme will make up for his lack of knowledge about Alexander.

*almost squeaks with excitement when he reads the discussion question*

Al'skander's greatest hero was Achilles. He modeled life after his and example he made at Troy. Victorious over Hector shows might. Return of body to Hector's father King Priam shows mercy.

Like Achilles, Al'skander in battle was mighty. Defeat Persian army with fraction of soldiers himself. After defeat, he show mercy on King Darius household, letting us... them... stay and live on there as his noble family.

He continue this through his life. Always undefeatable in battle, but merciful to people conquered.

Remus doesn't know much about Muggle history, so he listens with interest and makes notes to look up Alexander after class.

Duce smiles to herself after reading the assignment. She then turns in a paper that does as requested, discussing the theme and how Alexander tried to apply it to his rule. She also inserts commentary on how a perception of the past through glorified historical fiction can impact modern-day life in a positive manner.

She does not once refer to Homer as a syphilitic liar.

Logan doodles through most of class, then turn in a copy of a term paper he wrote at his last prep school. The Illiad? How cliche.
