History of the Ancient World

Although he was rushed, Seimei was the picture of calm and relaxed as he collapsed gracefully onto his pillows. The scroll was rolled out and his brush moved quickly over the paper to write out the class discussion question.

Homer’s The Iliad profoundly inspired Alexander. He carried a copy of The Iliad with him into every battle and tried to live by its theme of “might tempered by mercy.” Discuss what this theme means and give examples of how he tried to apply it in his rule.

Al'skander's greatest hero was Achilles. He modeled life after his and example he made at Troy. Victorious over Hector shows might. Return of body to Hector's father King Priam shows mercy.

Like Achilles, Al'skander in battle was mighty. Defeat Persian army with fraction of soldiers himself. After defeat, he show mercy on King Darius household, letting us... them... stay and live on there as his noble family.

He continue this through his life. Always undefeatable in battle, but merciful to people conquered.
