Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were tables and chairs set up all around the lawn. Some were in the sun, where folks could soak up that precious vitamin D, and some were in the shade where folks could stay cool.

All of the tables had at least a little glitter on them though. It was a welcoming gesture to get glitter someplace you didn't know glitter could go!

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Just because Pinkie wasn't teaching this summer didn't mean she was going to miss the Welcome Picnic. It was a party. Heck, it was the party. She was over by the desert table, rearranging the cakes. Or, you know, eating them.

At least she was putting new cakes out almost as fast as she was eating them?

Okay. Wait. That was a pink pony.

Pony.

Pink.

Dipper circled the table to observe her.

And also wonder why everyone was letting a pony move cakes around on a table.

It was far more of a matter of not being able to stop the pony from moving cakes around on a table.

"Oh hey there!" she greeted happily. "Would you like an apple cupcake? I baked them fresh this morning!"

And then she waited for the inevitable blinking/gawping/"You can talk!"ing. Humans were so predictable.

"Wait..."

He paused a moment to think this through.

"How do you bake with hooves?"

Yes he considered this weirder than animals talking.

Pinkie considered her hooves seriously. "Pretty quickly," she answered. "And usually while singing!"

"Oh!" Dipper said looking interested. "Do you have special baking equipment that work with your hooves? Because I would think it would be hard without thumbs."

"I sure do!" She meant her extra fun chef's hat, yes. "I don't know what the big deal is about thumbs, though. Nopony has them where I'm from and we get along just fine."

"Oh! So you're not from this island?" Dipper asked. "Because I saw a green deer earlier and thought maybe this island had different colored animals."

"Pfffft," Pinkie said. "The deer here are so boring! They don't even talk. And they're terrible romanticists." It was best not to ask. "I'm from Ponyville. That's in Equestria. I came here because Princess Celestia asked me and my friends to go out into the world and teach about friendship! It's a very important mission."

That she was totally taking a break from for the summer.

Romanticists? Dipper wasn't touching that topic with a ten foot pole.

"Interesting," Dipper said scratching his chin. "I'm beginning to wonder if anyone is truly from this island."

"Not that I've met," Pinkie admitted. "Folks mostly seem to come and go."

"So no one here is from here and from other worlds."

Dipper's last memory of Gravity Falls was a glowing portal and his sister floating in the air.

Could this have been where the portal led?

He frowned a little at the thought.

"Is there any written history of this island?"

"I dunno. Probably in the library." She wasn't the bookish pony, after all. "But there's a daily radio broadcast that goes back about ten years."

Alluka spent a lot of time pretending her toys could talk back to her, so when she sidled up to the amazingly pink pony, it wasn't to gape at the fact that the pony was doing anything, but rather--

"Your hair's so pretty," she said, utterly delighted. It was so pink! And floofy!

Pinkie let out a happy little squeaky toy noise. "Gosh, thanks!" She fluffed her mane with one hoof a little self-consciously. "Rarity is always trying to straighten it for special events, but it just wants to be curly-fluffy-fun, ya know?"

Alluka nodded her agreement.

"And it's hard to argue with hair!" she said, pleased that she knew this. "It does what it wants most of the time."

"Absatutely!" Pinkie agreed. "Hi, I'm Pinkie Pie. What's your name?"

"I'm Alluka!" she said, beaming at getting to tell someone her name. She'd been asked for it! So much was new today. "Are, are you a student too?"

"Nopers!" Pinkie said. "I'm a teacher. Well, I'm usually a teacher. I'm taking a break for the summer and working at the candy shop in town instead but I just couldn't miss the very bestest party of the season and getting to ~~break the brains of~~ meet all the new people coming to the island!"

"There's a candy shop?!"

That was the most important part of what Pinkie had said, right? Right?

Well yeah.

"There is! It's called Wonka's Sweet Shop, which is such a great name. Wonka! It's so silly and fun to say! I'm going to work there on Fridays and you should totally come by to visit me sometime! There's also a pretty good bakery --" not as good as the one the Cakes ran back in Ponyville, mind you, but pretty good "-- and a nifty little coffee shop and loads of funny little human restaurants that don't even serve hay."

Her eyes got bigger and bigger with each thing Pinkie listed off.

Alluka had never been to any of these things before.

"I'll visit you!" she promised, then faltered a little. "We're all allowed to go and visit people right? We don't need permission?"

"I don't think you do?" Pinkie said. "I see students in town all the time. But I don't live in the dorms, so I don't know if you need a hall pass or something."

"I don't want to be bad," Alluka confessed. "So I guess I'll have to ask if I can visit you. But if I can, I will!"

"Okidokiloki!" Pinkie said happily. "But don't worry too much. I think you have to try pretty hard to be bad around here."
