Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were chairs and tables set up all across the lawn; some were by the bonfire, for the people who wanted to be warm and central to everything else at the picnic, and some were set farther away from the action, for the people who wanted more peace and quiet.

There was no escaping the glitter though. Sorry, but not really.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Raven picked herself a nice peripheral spot to peoplewatch from. She had a new theory on the glitter: somewhere in the preserve, it actually grew on trees.

Hey, it was someone he actually knew! That was kind of a rare thing. Travis was going to ignore how sad that sounded in his head.

"Checking out the new crop?" he asked once he'd wandered over. "See anything interesting?"

"Well, my latest little sib is very flirty, and my new roommate appears to be completely normal," Raven said. "How about you? Have you met anyone fun yet?"

Travis shook his head. "No little sibling, flirty or otherwise. No change in roommate. Not much happening on my end. Dull, isn't it? I sound really boring right now."

"You sound like probably half the students," Raven said. "Most people don't get a new sib and a roommate at the same time after their first day here."

"Yeah, guess that's true," Travis agreed with a slight nod. "And I probably shouldn't really be inviting any new excitement because then I'll end up a toddler or a toucan or something."

"Have you actually turned into a toucan, or was that just going for alliteration?" Raven asked. "I think you'd make a cute toucan."

"The second one," Travis said but snickered at the thought of being a cute toucan. "There are cute toucans?"

"Neither have I." But, now he was trying to picture himself as a toucan. "I don't know, I think I'd be an annoying toucan. Always making noise and demanding food and wanting attention of the nearest person."

Kaylin waved to her and limped over. "Hey. I told Clint about you, back home. How you could make wings and all? But he didn't believe me."

"I guess I'll have to come visit your world sometime and prove it," Raven said. "I used them to show off my power to my new roommate. So thanks for giving me the idea to try."

"I'm the one who might get to fly with you one day," Kaylin said with a smile. "So you're welcome. And yes, you should come sometime. Though... it doesn't have all the luxuries we have here. But if you don't mind that, you're welcome."

Kaylin rarely took time to sleep or eat there either - even when she had money for food, so there was that as well. Sorry, Raven.

"Oh. Good then," Kaylin said with a smile. "Then you should come visit. You can meet Teela and Tain and Clint. And maybe Caitlin. But maybe not Marcus. Unless he's in a really good mood."

"All right," Kaylin nodded. "Unless... if we're going somewhere very interesting with the school..."

She might deny it till the cows came home, but she did enjoy the trips.

"Then we'll go the weekend after or something. Or the week. We can miss classes, sometimes."

Miss classes? Kaylin's eyes went huge. "Oh, I don't think that would be good. The missing classes part. Not unless there's some sort of emergency which involves, oh torn off limbs or something. Sleeping during them is one thing, but if they tell Marcus I haven't even gone he might not let me be a Hawk. But a weekend. A weekend would be good."

"Weekend, then." Raven wasn't even going to try to argue with a girl that freaked out by the idea of missing a class. "And then we can go visit my brother sometime, if you want."

If only Marcus and the Hawklord could see her right now they'd be laughing themselves silly at her panic.

"I'd like that," Kaylin said. "He wouldn't mind my coming?"

"Not at all. He'd love to meet you." And maybe hit on her. And ask a million questions about the society where she was from. "It's fun, it's not often my brother gets jealous of what I get to do."
