BWI Portalocity Lounge | Saturday Morning
One of the very few perks of having a meteorologist for a mother was that Amy could almost always avoid weather-related flight delays by relying on her mom for information. That was usually very convenient, but today it meant that due to anticipated late morning storms in northern Texas, Amy had been forced to fly in at ass o'clock in the morning so that she wouldn't run the risk of missing the bus to school. So it looked like she was the first person to reach the Fandom High banner in the airport lounge, and while Amy had always had hopes of one day winning a race, this wasn't quite what she had had in mind.
Armed with an overstuffed duffel bag and her favorite pair of sweatpants (they were decorated with little cartoon strips of bacon!), Amy stifled a heavy yawn and parked herself in a distant corner of the lounge where she could wait for more people to show up.

Re: The Trip to Fandom!
Yeah, Jono said that before he so much as opened the door to the shuttle, because he was an ass like that. He was going to open it and step off the bus a moment later, though, in case any of the new students needed a hand with any luggage, because he wasn't a total ass.
Mostly.
//Watch your steps, mind the glitter.//
The bus didn't actually have any glitter on it, by some miracle. Seriously, Jono lived for this.
Re: The Trip to Fandom!
"Hi, I'm Amy," she said as she stood up and hauled her duffel bag up off the ground. Grabbing for politeness, she offered, "I like your scarf?"
Scarf... thing.
Re: The Trip to Fandom!
//Thanks, luv. I'm Jonothon. Professor Starsmore, I suppose, if you want to stand on propriety, but I still don't know how to react to being called 'Professor.'// He held out a hand to help her with her bag. //Long trip so far?//
Call it a hunch.
Re: The Trip to Fandom!
So much for the politeness?
Re: The Trip to Fandom!
//Most people wouldn't believe me if I were to tell them, on their first day,// he noted. //Ever hear of superpowers, luv?//

Of course, she leaped to the wrong conclusion.
"Mage," she snapped, looking up at him from the street. "You will explain this to me now."
Re: The Trip to Fandom!
//Close enough,// he decided. //This is the bus. It'll be taking you to school, where, presumably, unless you decide to skip your classes or something, you'll be learning things. Whatever things you registered to learn.//
A beat, and then he added, //Most of our classes are even useful, this semester.//
Re: The Trip to Fandom!
She was also possibly doing more gesturing with her sword than some might be comfortable with.
"Again with this school," she said. "Talk sense."
Re: The Trip to Fandom!
He totally got the 'no idea how I got here' deal. After all, his first day on the island had been courtesy of some kind of sentient fairy mist.

She didn't seem to be freaking out. The curiosity was a welcome change of pace, actually.
Re: The Trip to Fandom!
Which caused a slight creak in the suspension. Not that anyone might notice off the bat. "Most of them had rather unique abilities."
Re: The Trip to Fandom!
//Well, then you'll do quite well on the island, I should think. You're here to teach, I'm guessing?//
My, Jono. What was your first clue?

Polite, she could do. Having your dad as a drill sergeant made it reflex. And perhaps... "I have not been to school before, with other children. Is there anything I should know, first?"
Also, it was interesting that she seemed to hear his voice in her head. Ventriloquism?
Re: The Trip to Fandom!
//Oh, luv, you're in for a treat.// He held out his hand, ticking on his fingers. //There's usually free food in one of the common rooms, if you're feeling peckish. You'll most likely be sharing a room with another new student, but you'll be assigned a big sibling out of the existing lot to show you the rope. The year's 2015, just barely, Fandom Island is located in America, and yes, those are both things that will probably be relevant in conversation at least once.//

"Wait. Did you ..." Anna was tilting her head and squinting at him funny, because -- wait. Did he just say that in her head!?!
Re: The Trip to Fandom!
//I did,// he replied with a little shrug, //if you're asking if I made the glitter up.//
Yes, he was being a brat, now. Which was completely unusual and not at all like him. Honest.
Re: The Trip to Fandom!
Focus, Anna.
"Are you actually talking in my brain!?" she asked. "Because that girl over there is in armor and I've never seen what those big metal things are and so maybe I'm wondering if I hit my head."
Re: The Trip to Fandom!
He took a look at her dress.
//... Traveled through time, most likely. Yes, I am talking into your head. You'll get used to it, though there aren't many people around the island who do it on a regular basis.//

Even if a sword or a gun probably couldn't kill him. It still wasn't his idea of a good time.

He shrugged.
//Won't do to have her doing that to her classmates, though. I know of at least two students who use magic in their day-to-day.//
