BWI Portalocity Lounge | Saturday Morning

One of the very few perks of having a meteorologist for a mother was that Amy could almost always avoid weather-related flight delays by relying on her mom for information. That was usually very convenient, but today it meant that due to anticipated late morning storms in northern Texas, Amy had been forced to fly in at ass o'clock in the morning so that she wouldn't run the risk of missing the bus to school. So it looked like she was the first person to reach the Fandom High banner in the airport lounge, and while Amy had always had hopes of one day winning a race, this wasn't quite what she had had in mind.

Armed with an overstuffed duffel bag and her favorite pair of sweatpants (they were decorated with little cartoon strips of bacon!), Amy stifled a heavy yawn and parked herself in a distant corner of the lounge where she could wait for more people to show up.

On this side, there was no flash of light, no glowing door-- just a teenage girl in full (helmless) armor, sword in hand, stumbling suddenly into the room out of nowhere.

"Maker!"

Cassandra righted herself. Her eyes were wild. "Where is the mage?!" she snarled. "Are you another apostate?"

... Please excuse her, it'd been an odd couple of minutes.

Hanna blinked. Then leaned forward to look behind the other girl, to see how she did that.

Not seeing anything was puzzling, but not terribly worrying. The sword, on the other hand....

"Where did you come from?" she asked, keeping her hands free to reach for her own concealed weapons.

Cassandra narrowed her eyes at the girl, and her hand traveled down to settle on her now-sheathed sword. "A mage's spell sent me here," she said. "Where did you come from?"

Her tone implied there had better be an answer forthcoming.

Anna was staring. She hadn't known what to expect, exactly, but a girl in fully-clad armor wasn't it.

"Are you a knight?" she asked. It seemed like a reasonable question.

It was probably the most reasonable question Cassandra had been asked since she stumbled on in here.

"Yes," she said. Well, in a manner of speaking. "Or so I will be."

She looked right on back at Anna, studying her. No staff, no other signs that she was any more a mage than the other girls had been. "Who are you?"

She had cooled some, but not yet to the point of sounding friendly to anyone. (That might take weeks.)

Jones had elected to travel by portal and then plane to get to the BWI lounge for Fandom. He could have gone directly to the island but elected to go by bus in order to observe any potential students and their behaviors while traveling to their new school.

She entered the lounge and silently reviewed the people there and the seating arrangements before electing to stand near the entrance like some kind of solemn sentry in a woman's business suit.

"Yes. That is the location we'll be going to when the shuttle arrives," Jones said evenly.

She then glanced at Amy's sweatpants.

"Will you be changing before we leave?"

This woman reminded Hanna very faintly of Marissa Wiegler. She was torn between slouching down and hoping not to be noticed, and standing on the balls of her feet, ready for an attack.

It was the suit, mostly. And the posture.

As Jones stood at the entrance of the lounge her eyes eventually landed on Hanna. She gazed at Hanna for less than a minute taking her in and observing her.

Which could be confused with "staring" really.

"Hi!" Anna said excitedly. She was here to make friends and chew bubblegum, and she was all out of gum. Ooooh, now she wanted gum!

"You're not a student here, are you?" she asked. "Because you seem older. Not old! Just older, than, like, us. Maybe some students are older! Was that rude?"

Re: Wait for the Shuttle

[identity profile] wandering-stone.livejournal.com 2015-01-03 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, Anna. You had no idea how much older she was. And sorry. She had no gum.

"I am not a student," Jones replied evenly. "I am a new instructor at the school and will be traveling with you via the shuttle. I am Jones."

Hanna had found a place to sleep overnight near the terminal, and emerged sleepy but finally rested. She'd found a place that sold coffee (Starbucks? What was the meaning of that?) and was now wandering at random, trying to decide where to go next.

The sign for the bus caught her eye, and she stopped, tilting her head to study those waiting.

Re: Wait for the Shuttle

[identity profile] hexentotchen.livejournal.com 2015-01-03 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
"For the school," Hanna repeated slowly, with the lilt of a German accent and a question in her voice. "I am-- not sure." She bit her lip, then wandered closer, one hand clutching her mocha-with-whipped-cream (it was delicious!) and one gripping her duffel bag closely. "I have not been in Baltimore long. This is the only bus?"

She could hide alone, in the wilderness-- or maybe in a crowd of other young people?

[identity profile] elated-or-gassy.livejournal.com 2015-01-03 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Anna was going to make it easy to study her, what with bouncing up and introducing herself.

"Are you waiting for the bus, too?" she asked. "I've never actually been on a bus. Or those weird ... purple things that got me here. Still not ... sure what that was about!"

Re: Wait for the Shuttle

[identity profile] hexentotchen.livejournal.com 2015-01-03 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
"I think so, yes," Hanna said cautiously, then gave another smile as the other girl kept talking. "I've been on many. Most in the last two days."

All in the last two days, let's be honest.

"Purple things?"

[identity profile] elated-or-gassy.livejournal.com 2015-01-03 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
And then, abruptly, there was a short redhaired girl flouncing into the room, wearing what would seem (to anyone from current-day Earth) to be a Ren Faire costume but to her was actually one of her nicer dresses, with some rosemaling embroidered along the edge of the skirt.

She was dragging two large trunks behind her, because she had been thoroughly and completely unable to decide what to pack, because she'd never actually left the castle before. This was exciting. This was an adventure. This was -- probably something she should have thought about before she started lugging gigantic trunks all over the BWI Lounge.

No matter! She was here, and she was going to make friends. All of the friends. All of the friends, ever.

Ugh. Carmilla couldn't believe she was hiding out at a high school of all places. But she had to admit, it was probably the last place Mother would look for her.

She dropped her duffel bag on the ground by the shuttle stop and leaned back against the wall, checking out the other students. Some of them were cute, at least.

"Are you waiting for the shuttle?" Anna chirped, excitedly, at the new person in their midst. "They said it's going to be some kind of a bus. And not one of those purple glowing things again."

Still not over traveling by portal, then.
