BWI Portalocity Lounge | Saturday Morning

One of the very few perks of having a meteorologist for a mother was that Amy could almost always avoid weather-related flight delays by relying on her mom for information. That was usually very convenient, but today it meant that due to anticipated late morning storms in northern Texas, Amy had been forced to fly in at ass o'clock in the morning so that she wouldn't run the risk of missing the bus to school. So it looked like she was the first person to reach the Fandom High banner in the airport lounge, and while Amy had always had hopes of one day winning a race, this wasn't quite what she had had in mind.

Armed with an overstuffed duffel bag and her favorite pair of sweatpants (they were decorated with little cartoon strips of bacon!), Amy stifled a heavy yawn and parked herself in a distant corner of the lounge where she could wait for more people to show up.

Jones had elected to travel by portal and then plane to get to the BWI lounge for Fandom. He could have gone directly to the island but elected to go by bus in order to observe any potential students and their behaviors while traveling to their new school.

She entered the lounge and silently reviewed the people there and the seating arrangements before electing to stand near the entrance like some kind of solemn sentry in a woman's business suit.

"Yes. That is the location we'll be going to when the shuttle arrives," Jones said evenly.

She then glanced at Amy's sweatpants.

"Will you be changing before we leave?"

"There is no dress code according to the documentation I've read," Jones said in her continued even tones. "However this will be your first impression at a new school. You may wish to be a tad more formal."

"That is of course your choice," Jones said with a slow almost mechanical nod. "I am merely making a suggestion."

This woman reminded Hanna very faintly of Marissa Wiegler. She was torn between slouching down and hoping not to be noticed, and standing on the balls of her feet, ready for an attack.

It was the suit, mostly. And the posture.

As Jones stood at the entrance of the lounge her eyes eventually landed on Hanna. She gazed at Hanna for less than a minute taking her in and observing her.

Which could be confused with "staring" really.

Hanna stared back. Kind of like a feral kitten, huge eyes and tail lashing. If she'd had a tail. Ready to jump one way or the other.

Not Marissa, not Marissa, not Marissa. Who?

The silence finally weighed so heavily that she had to break it. "Hello?"

"Hello," Jones replied. "My name is Jones. I am a new teacher at the school you will be attending."

Oh. Interesting. Possibly not a threat? Maybe? Hanna opted for politeness. "I am Hanna Heller. I am sixteen years old. This is my first time in America." There. Three true things. "What will you be teaching?"

"A course of independent study," Jones replied. "You accent sounds slightly European. Why are you coming to the school?"

"German." Hanna carefully said, "To broaden my horizons. And..." She still felt a little threatened by this woman, although she could not put her finger on why. But she had none of Sophie's mother's interested warmth. Or obliviousness. "To help me decide. What to do in the future."

Really there wasn't any warmth at all from Jones. Then again she wasn't much for emotions to begin with.

"You could broaden your horizons anywhere," she noted. "Why this place?"

Because it was the first one she stumbled on? Because she was acting on impulse? Hanna looked around, trying to think of an answer that might work and finally said, "I like the girls I have met so far. And." Her chin went up. "It is good to leave the past behind. Sometimes."

"And what past would that be?" Jones asked tilting her head slightly.

"Not a good one." Not in the immediate past, anyway. Before that... "At least lately."

"Hi!" Anna said excitedly. She was here to make friends and chew bubblegum, and she was all out of gum. Ooooh, now she wanted gum!

"You're not a student here, are you?" she asked. "Because you seem older. Not old! Just older, than, like, us. Maybe some students are older! Was that rude?"

Re: Wait for the Shuttle

[identity profile] wandering-stone.livejournal.com 2015-01-03 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, Anna. You had no idea how much older she was. And sorry. She had no gum.

"I am not a student," Jones replied evenly. "I am a new instructor at the school and will be traveling with you via the shuttle. I am Jones."

"Anna, of Arendelle," Anna said, proferring the customary curtsy. "Did you get here by one of those weird purple things? Because I've never traveled by weird purple thing before. It was fast, though."
