Sociology of the Paranormal: 6th Period

"Today, you will be broken up into project groups. I am going to give you your topics, and what I'd like each group to do is come up with several discussion questions based on your topic.

If you have any questions or concerns, let me know."

Homework: Here is the Study Guide for your midterm. I suggest you begin to review it.

Moral and ethical issues involving the use of Magic

Phoebe is cheerful and bouncy as she comes into class. In fact, she hasn't looked this happy and relaxed in months.

Lana darts a glance over at Professor Grissom, then slips over to Phoebe's side. "So? What happened?" Her face is all smiles.

Phoebe is beaming. "He chose life over death," she says proudly.

Lana closes her eyes in relief. "I'm so happy to hear that. And so glad for you!" She hugs Phoebe.

She hugs her friend tightly.

"He decided that keeping the innocents from dying was more important than keeping his promise to Angelus. He wants to do good. Angel is going to help him."

"Thank God. I tried to get him to go to Angel, told him that *I'd* even go if he wanted. I'm so glad he did finally. You must be so happy!"

Mac finds her group, she's very glad that this is a class that doesn't involve the use of paper.

Phoebe introduces herself to Mac.

Mac nods, "Hi, it's good to finally be able to put a name to your face." She then quickly adds,"I'm Mac."

Phoebe gives her a curious smile. "Is this a good thing?"

Mac laughed, "yes, I'm pretty sure it is. You're a friend of Veronica's right? I remember you vaguely from the spa day." She shrugged, "I trust her judgement on people."

Phoebe's smile gets brighter.

"Oh yeah! I'm a friend of Veronica's." She nods. "A ot has happened to me since Spa day so my memory is fuzzy."

Cole walked into class and took his seat by Phoebe. For those who had seen him earlier in the day, he didn't look nearly as happy anymore.

Phoebe turned to him and gave him a confused look. She reached for his hand.

Cole tensed for a brief moment, then squeezed his fingers around hers.

Phoebe watched her incredibly good mood disappear right out the window and be replaced with worry and concern. His tensed hesitation to take her hand bothered her and she quickly wrote a note.

What's happened?

Not here, he wrote back.

Phoebe nodded at him, concern flooding her eyes.

Addressing the topic at hand, Cole said, "Some people think that using magical for personal gain is unethical."

Phoebe nodded. "How do you define personal gain?"

"A general definition is probably anything that benefits the person performing the magic," Cordelia says, a hint of snark in her voice.

[[OOC: Totally nothing against you/Phoebe, Cordy's just in a bad mood :D]]

Since the last time Phoebe performed magic, it wasn't for herself, she nods and writes that down. "So letting magic benefit you in some way can be considered unethical?"

[[OOC: So not a worry. *grins* It takes a lot to offend Phoebe/me and she's having her own issues at the moment.]]

"I guess if you're from a place where magic for personal gain is wrong, which I'm thinking is true in most magical theories, then, yeah, it would be unethical."
