Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Were you a veteran Fandom resident? Did you finish getting your brain broken by your sibling and/or buddy? Did you just want to sit down to recover from the shuttle ride? If so, then there were plenty of tables and chairs set up across the lawn just waiting to be filled!

[This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Face had found the buffet tables, and while he mightn't recognise specific dishes, finger food was apparently universal, and he was willing to bet that these would be more to a teenage boy's taste than what was served up at holodrama premieres to impress the Imperial elite.

Please ignore the redhead gawking at you from behind her glass of water, Face. It will be so much less awkward for everyone.

If Face cared about making things less awkward, his life would actually be a whole lot easier.

"Can I help you?"

People being trained to be totally badass Emperor's Hands do not squeak and blush.

So...ignore how she did that.

"You look kind of familiar, that's all," she stammered in a ~~British~~ Coruscanti accent.

Well, this certainly wasn't something Face had heard before. Ever. The squeaking was adorable though.

"Yeah, I get that a lot," he said to the Coruscanti girl. "Some actor named after a body part." Which'd probably work better if he wasn't wearing a name tag.

Goodbye, sweet anonymity, Face knew you for a whole morning.

Mara prided herself on her ability to keep her composure. She trained personally with the Emperor of the entire galaxy, and yet this actor was making her all fluttery.

"Hello, Face," she said with a nervous smile. "I'm Mara."

Well, the Emperor wasn't nearly as pretty as Face was.

"Nice to meet you, Mara," he said, smiling. He made sure it was one of his more charming ones, it wasn't her fault he was faking his death. "From Coruscant, right?"

She nodded. "Yes."

Come up with something else to say, Mara...

"I loved your last holo," she said, naming it.

Which...wasn't the last one Face probably knew.

"Oh, that?" Face's eyebrows rose imperceptibly. That, plus the fact she wasn't surprised he was alive, had Face suspecting something weird was going on.

"Some of my better work there." Definitely better than his actual last one, at least.

They were all so, so good, Face! SO GOOD.

"How did you learn to cry on command like that?" she wondered.

"The trick is to think of something incredibly sad. The saddest thing you can think of," Face said, letting his expression become woeful and pathetic. "The rest comes naturally."

Mara nodded. "I'll have to practice. It's always handy to do that to get out of chores, right?"

"Exactly," Face agreed. "Though you can't do it too often or your parents start to get suspicious." The fact his parents were also Lorrdian totally wasn't a factor, really.

"Aren't your parents already suspicious?" Mara wondered.

"It seems to be working so far, and they couldn't fool anyone." Because they hadn't been 'grieving his loss' for well over a year now without getting caught out, or anything. "Unless that's what they want me to think."

"Well, they are Lorrdian," Mara said, smiling eagerly and hoping that came out at "obsessed fan" more than "scarily well-briefed tiny assassin."

In certain circumstances the latter would have been more reassuring.

"You're right." Face gasped, feigning surprise. "How could I never have seen it before?"

"You're pretty but not that smart?" Mara suggested sweetly.

Face grinned and batted his eyelashes at Mara. "You think I'm pretty?"

Hope you weren't expecting the great Face Loran to be suave or serious, Mara.

"Everyone thinks you're pretty, Face," Mara said, blushing slightly. "There are at least a dozen magazines just on Imperial Center devoted to your every move."

Face remembered those, and the holoshoots he'd had to do for half of them, usually involving bare feet, soulful looks and ruffled shirts. Some days it was good to be dead.

"But you're not everyone, Mara. You've seen me..." he lowered his voice dramatically. "...without make-up."

"At least most of it," she teased. "There's no way those are not enhanced eyelashes."

What.

That was an odd segue for a teen girl.

"Lies," Face said smoothly, covering his surprise. "Slander spread by fans of Tetran Cowall."

All the girls in Imperial Center knew about prosthetics and advanced make up techniques? Maybe?

She made a face. "He's not half as talented."

Well he had at her age, but he'd been an actor.

Face grinned. "Clearly you are a woman of intelligence and good taste," he said.
