Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Were you a veteran Fandom resident? Did you finish getting your brain broken by your sibling and/or buddy? Did you just want to sit down to recover from the shuttle ride? If so, then there were plenty of tables and chairs set up across the lawn just waiting to be filled!

[This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"You're remarkable self-assured," Mara teased. "What classes are you in?"

"Let me think,. The mercenary class, the hostile environment one, Terrain and You, and Creative Writing," Face said, listing them off on his fingers. "And some online classes that sounded close to Lorrdian subjects as well. You?"

Mara looked pleased. "We have two in common! The mercenary class and the hostile environment one. I'm also taking something about destiny and whatever they send me from home."

And spycraft, but she could hardly admit to that, right?

Well, it was doubtful how much she'd actually learn about spying in that class...

"Putting that all together your destiny is to become a dashing and capable space pirate," Face said, grinning. "Or maybe mine is."

Well, he was kind of right in his case. Kind of.

Well, someone would have to keep Talon Karrde in line eventually...

Mara laughed. "I hadn't really given it much thought."

It was a good thing she had Face to practice on then.

"That's no good," Face said. "We need to start preparing if we're going to be space pirates."

"Are pirates all that prepared?" Mara wondered.

"Probably not," Face said after a moment's thought. "But that just means we'll be better than the rest of the pirates."

"Not terribly difficult, from what I've heard about pirates," Mara said. "...which isn't a lot," she tacked on.

Huh, Face wasn't expecting those ellipses.

"Don't worry I've watched tons of pirate holos," Face said. "Those are always completely accurate."

Mara laughed. "I've heard they're practically documentaries."

Face nodded. "Documentaries that end in one on one vibrosword duels."

"Well, of course," Mara said. "Why use blasters when you could use something some much less efficient?"

"Who cares about efficiency when you can look impressive?" Not actually Face's life motto, but it helped if people thought it was.

"And that's why we don't have any more Jedi," Mara said dryly. "Plus the whole 'traitors to the Empire' part, of course."

She was one of those people, Face. Sorry.

At least he'd found out before he said something seditious? Well, it wasn't like he'd known how bad the Empire was until relatively recently.

"Yes, that," he said, nodding. "That was terrible of them."

Yeah, she was a good decade or so from figuring that out for herself. What a shame.

"Well, it's better now, even if the lightsabers were pretty iconic."

Face wasn't so sure about 'better', but he had just enough good sense not to argue about it right this minute. "What colour lightsaber would you have picked?" he asked instead. "I think green would've set off my eyes."

"Violet," Mara said immediately (because her lightsaber was violet...). "I like to be original."

Like Mace Windu.

But did Mara's have "Badass Mother" written on the handle?

"I can see that," Face said, striking a pose and making lightsaber noises.

Not yet?

"Have you used one in a holo?" Mara asked, fighting her instinct to correct his invisible lightsaber stance.

Face shook his head. "I was up for a role as an apprentice who realised the error of the Jedi's ways and died tragically defending the Emperor from his master." Win or Die, now with lightsabers, basically. "But that fell through." Because he'd had to fake his death.

"Oh, that's a shame," Mara said. "It sounds really good."

That was one way of describing it. "I'm sure it would have been a fine example of Imperial holo-making," was another.

"They all are," Mara said loyally.
