BWI Airport Portalocity Lounge- Saturday morning

A few days ago Gwen saw New York destroyed and drowned and her friend/roommate/surrogate brother type was presumed dead for a while- got a really amazing obituary for his alter-ego and everything. Today she was waiting for a portal that was going to take her to a school in Maryland. She was actually looking forward to school, just to get back to doing normal things again, but the timing was weird.

She seemed to be the first one here, and the banner meant she was probably in the right seat, so.

Gwen would be the sullen-looking girl sitting under the glittery Fandom High banner and showing too much midriff. And occasionally brushing at the top of her head with her hand because she was convinced the glitter was probably raining down on her.

Just before stumbling into the terminal, Kyle had pushed his half asleep ass out of his truck and laden him down with his bags. He'd patted Travis on the shoulder, given him a hug and shoved him in the direction of the Fandom terminal.

During the walk, Travis had managed to wake up a bit though there was still sleep in his eyes. It'd been a long drive and Kyle drove like an old lady sometimes.

But, Travis had gotten there and he hadn't even bothered with a scarf to cover up his scar. Whatever, if anyone saw it and recognized him, he was tired enough to tell them to buzz off.

He could do waving. He could do waving after checking to make sure she wasn't waving at someone behind him and he wasn't about to make a giant fool of himself.

He'd had enough of that lately.

So, he gave her a quick wave and a smile back.

"Yep." He nodded and looked around, eyes falling on the big banner. "Looks like I'm in the right place, at least. I feel like there should be cookies if there's a welcome banner like that around."

Talking about cookies made Travis distinctly aware that he had not had anything to eat since about two in the morning. Well, now he really hoped they had cookies too.

"You know anything about this place?" he asked, trying not to think about his hunger.

"That just sounds like it could come back and bite them in the ass," Travis said thoughtfully. "Special circumstances is a very broad label. Never know what you're gonna get with that."

He supposed he fell into that category even if he really wished he didn't.

Johnny nodded at the other guy. "Cool scar. Going to Fandom?"

"Thanks. Can't say it was fun to get but through therapy and counseling, me and my scar are learning to love each other."

He snickered and kept his arms crossed to force himself not to cover said scar. "Yeah, that's where I'm going. You too?"

"It adds character," Johnny decided. "And yep, that's why I'm sitting under the glittery banner. No idea why it's so glittery, though. That just seems excessive."

"I'd really only accept glitter if there were cookies included," Travis said, glancing around and then shrugging. "I see no cookies. Not a very warm welcome, in my opinion."

He was starving, okay.

"Glitter's an interesting touch, though."

"Sorry. All you get is a banner and some classmates," Johnny said, chuckling at the joke about the warm welcome.

That had to be a joke. He was talking to the Human Torch. The world famous adventurer. For it to not be a joke, he would have had to not know who Johnny was.

Oh Johnny, he was going to disappoint you but he'd take credit for the unintentional joke!

"Guess I'm okay with that for now." Though, he hoped this bus ride wasn't too long because he didn't want to end up asleep with his faced smashed against the bus window. "I'm Travis. Fellow classmate."

"Johnny," although he was sure Travis already knew that. "Nice to meet you."

"Yeah, you too," he said, nodding and showing no real recognition of the name. "You hear because of special circumstances too?"

Well, Gwen had said that was a thing with this place.

Yeah, so the neck scar thing was kind of eye-catching. Evie had no idea how he'd gotten in, but she was pretty sure she'd figured out why this kid was waiting to go to Fandom.

"Morning," she drawled. "Still waking up?"

Re: Wait for the shuttle

[identity profile] theheadkid.livejournal.com 2014-08-23 10:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Yep." Travis nodded and stifled a yawn. "What gave me away?"

He had a few guesses of what gave him away but maybe he was projecting more exhaustion than even he thought.

[identity profile] poison-princess.livejournal.com 2014-08-23 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, you just fought back a yawn," she pointed out. "Besides, at this time of the morning, the only people who aren't still waking up are the bright and cheery early birds. And I don't think you're one of them."

Re: Wait for the shuttle

[identity profile] theheadkid.livejournal.com 2014-08-23 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not even close," he said, half smiling and rubbing his face to try and wipe away some of the exhaustion. "A friend just drove me here from Kansas so I tried to sleep in his truck which didn't work really well. I haven't eaten anything either so I'm struggling right now."

Re: Wait for the shuttle

[identity profile] poison-princess.livejournal.com 2014-08-23 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"If you want, I can run over to the food court and see if I can't pick you something up? Won't take me more than a minute," Evie offered. "I'm from Louisiana, so feeding people is kind of a compulsion, you know?"

Re: Wait for the shuttle

[identity profile] theheadkid.livejournal.com 2014-08-23 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Uh, are you sure?" He hadn't expected an offer like that and the gentlemanly part of him wanted to say no but his stomach was saying otherwise.

And it continued to be so weird that the first thing people talked to him about wasn't the scar on his neck. He liked it.

"I mean, I can go with you, if you want. So I don't feel like a complete jerk for making someone I don't know go get me food."

Re: Wait for the shuttle

[identity profile] poison-princess.livejournal.com 2014-08-24 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
"Sure, if you want to," Evie said. "I mean, I probably wasn't gonna get more than a breakfast sandwich and a sweet tea from McDonalds or whatever." She smiled at him. "You can take the girl out of the South, but you can't take the hospitality out of the girl."

Re: Wait for the shuttle

[identity profile] theheadkid.livejournal.com 2014-08-24 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
"I can walk with you," Travis volunteered. These days, he kind of liked just walking considering he'd been unable to do that for awhile. "Pay back your hospitality with...well, I was going to say my company but that makes me sound egotistical and stupid. Pay back your hospitality with...some hospitality of my own."

Still sounded lame but it was less lame than the first thing he'd almost said.
