BWI Airport Portalocity Lounge- Saturday morning

A few days ago Gwen saw New York destroyed and drowned and her friend/roommate/surrogate brother type was presumed dead for a while- got a really amazing obituary for his alter-ego and everything. Today she was waiting for a portal that was going to take her to a school in Maryland. She was actually looking forward to school, just to get back to doing normal things again, but the timing was weird.

She seemed to be the first one here, and the banner meant she was probably in the right seat, so.

Gwen would be the sullen-looking girl sitting under the glittery Fandom High banner and showing too much midriff. And occasionally brushing at the top of her head with her hand because she was convinced the glitter was probably raining down on her.

Nine years in the game and this is the first time I'm ever doing this.

Johnny was still carrying his life in his backpack, so it looked like, well, pretty much what you would expect from an American teenager spending three months adrift in Europe. He smelled better than you would expect from that, though. He might have been on hard times, but he was still vain as hell.

He found his way under the Fandom High banner and plopped down in a seat. He may have been staring at the ceiling after he did so, but he still gave a wave of acknowledgement at the girl who was already there... and who looked vaguely familiar.

You'd have to forgive Gwen for not recognizing him outright. For reasons.

"'s up?" she greeted him, eloquently.

Bus? Check. Driver? Check. License to drive a bus?

... Mostly optional. But Reno was licensed to drive a helicopter, and the shuttle was likely to spend almost as much time airborne, so he was counting it close enough.

"All aboard for Fandom High, yo!"

If any of you newbies are the praying type, you might want to start doing that now.

"Things. School. Stuff. Y'know?" Johnny answered. And then he sighed. "Sorry, I'm usually more charming."

"It's too early for charming. Save it for school," she assured him. "Gwen Stacy."

Gwen got on the bus, but couldn't resist checking, "This is a legitimate shuttle thing, right? You're not just picking up groups of teenagers to take somewhere and dismember us?"

Either way, she was already on the bus.

"Oh, yeah, I spent years saving up for the shitty school bus just for that purpose," Reno snorted, but he gave the girl a grin all the same. "Nah, I'm one of the teachers up at the school. Teaching a class about public service and everything this semester, yo."

It was probably actually the first very-nearly-legitimate-if-you-squinted classes he'd ever taught. He was kind of proud of himself.

"They have classes on that? Sounds pretty progressive."

Oh you just wait, Gwen.

"As long as it goes better for me than the last time I tried regular people school," Johnny said. Why did that name sound familiar? "I'm Johnny."

Either she'd recognize him from the name and his face or he'd get a few more minutes of anonymity.

"Progressive," Reno echoed, pursing his lips thoughtfully. "Yeah, I guess that's one way to put it. We also got classes on food, an intro to technology, sex ed, history, a couple of lit classes..."

And then, realizing that he'd exhausted pretty much every typical high school course not taught by a high-tech simulation, he shrugged and added, "meditation and ass-kicking..."

She peered at him, even if she wasn't quite putting two and two together, because why would she do a thing like that?

"What happened last time you tried regular people school?" Gwen asked.

Gwen blinked. "Wait, what?"

"Taught by the dean of students," Reno added, just a touch too cheerfully. "So you know it's gotta be good. I mean, if you're into that meditation thing."

Who wouldn't be into ass-kicking?

"There was a cute girl, a group date, and a fire thing on a beach. Long story," Johnny said, sitting up so he could actually look at Gwen as he was talking. "Not arson and nobody was hurt, I swear. I know I just made it sound super sketchy. It isn't. I swear."

She was still peering at him. "Wait, are you Johnny Storm?"

"I think I'd probably suck at it," Gwen said. "Probably a lot."

"The meditation part, or the ass-kicking part?"

Because in that school, you really had to double-check these things.

"Because, I mean, presumably he's gonna teach how to do both so you don't suck at it."

Presumably.

"I'd say no, but we'll probably have a class together and you'll find out then and call me a liar," Johnny said, waving his hand dismissively at that future. "So yes, I'm Johnny Storm. Don't tell anyone." Like they wouldn't know anyway.

"The meditation part. It just sound so boring," Gwen said.

Reno actually took a moment to cackle and give his hands a clap at that.

"I know, right? Who wants to sit around reflecting or practicing their breathing when they can be punching something. I already know how to breathe, yo."

"Are you okay? How'd you get out of New York? What are you doing here?" So maybe she was a little concerned by way of Peter. Who was so getting a text later.

"Hey, we have someone on staff who says 'yo,' yo!" Johnny said, far to amused by this fact.
