BWI Airport Portalocity Lounge- Saturday morning

A few days ago Gwen saw New York destroyed and drowned and her friend/roommate/surrogate brother type was presumed dead for a while- got a really amazing obituary for his alter-ego and everything. Today she was waiting for a portal that was going to take her to a school in Maryland. She was actually looking forward to school, just to get back to doing normal things again, but the timing was weird.

She seemed to be the first one here, and the banner meant she was probably in the right seat, so.

Gwen would be the sullen-looking girl sitting under the glittery Fandom High banner and showing too much midriff. And occasionally brushing at the top of her head with her hand because she was convinced the glitter was probably raining down on her.

She peered at him, even if she wasn't quite putting two and two together, because why would she do a thing like that?

"What happened last time you tried regular people school?" Gwen asked.

"There was a cute girl, a group date, and a fire thing on a beach. Long story," Johnny said, sitting up so he could actually look at Gwen as he was talking. "Not arson and nobody was hurt, I swear. I know I just made it sound super sketchy. It isn't. I swear."

She was still peering at him. "Wait, are you Johnny Storm?"

"I'd say no, but we'll probably have a class together and you'll find out then and call me a liar," Johnny said, waving his hand dismissively at that future. "So yes, I'm Johnny Storm. Don't tell anyone." Like they wouldn't know anyway.

"Are you okay? How'd you get out of New York? What are you doing here?" So maybe she was a little concerned by way of Peter. Who was so getting a text later.

"Well, I've spent the last three months bumming around Europe after, you know, my dad died in the wave and the Fantastic Four broke up," Johnny said. "And I'm here because, I dunno, I was done with Europe."

Gwen's first thought was that she'd died in the flood somehow and been resurrected again after three months and no one told her.

Gwen was a drama queen.

"Three months?" she repeated. "It's been like three days."

"Yeah, three days after was when my dad was buried," Johnny said. "I'm pretty sure calendars will have my back on this on."

"I'm sorry," Gwen said, being able to relate to that, at least. "But seriously, it happened on Wednesday. They haven't even pulled the reporters off the scene yet."

"Oh, wait, I've got this. I've time traveled before," Johnny said, snapping his fingers a couple times as he tried to think of a way to explain it. "We're probably just on slightly different timelines somehow. Or maybe you're from a universe where it happened three months later than it did for me. Reed would be able to explain it, but he's too busy being a complete douche somewhere."

Gwen's eyebrows went way up there. "You think we're from alternate universes?"

"Anything's possible," Johnny said. "We had an older Zombie FF from another world trapped in a closet for a few weeks. So it's either that or one of us has serious calendar problems."

"And here I thought the biggest problem we had was monsters," Gwen said. "And then I hear the word 'zombie' and realize I'm probably lowballing it."

And considering one of those monsters killed her, that was depressing.

"As someone who had an N-Zone parasite in him that could have destroyed the world, trust me, the monsters can be pretty bad, too," Johnny said. "But hey, none of that here, right? We're just in Baltimore. The worst thing to come out of Baltimore is crime and a couple John Waters movies."

"Exactly," Gwen nodded. At the very least, it had to be better than New York. "Peter's gonna flip out when I tell him you're here."

"Peter?" Johnny asked. And that's when it finally dawned on him. "I knew you looked familiar! You're the naked girl who turned into the whatever back when he had the clones. That was bugging me. Thank you."

"So you got better from that? And got clothes?"

"Oh my god, you were there for that?" All the facepalming. All of it. "Yeah, I got better. And I'm kinda trying to not mention it. And you're welcome."

"Dude, don't worry. I grew up in the Baxter Building. I know how to keep state secrets," Johnny said. "... Ignore the fact that I said anything about the zombie FF since that included a zombie me. So that's my business. This is yours. The vault is sealed."

"Thanks," Gwen said. "And just as an FYI, I don't do that anymore. The, uh, monster thing."

"Good. I saw you throw the Thing clear across town. I don't want to mess with that," Johnny decided.

"Sorry about that," Gwen said sheepishly. "It wasn't me. Not really. Technically. I think."

"He's a big boy. The biggest boy, really. He was fine," Johnny said. "We picked him up and used him as an implied threat minutes later."

"Oh, good," she said, totally meaning that.

"So why are you going to this place? Just to get away from the whole... thing?" Johnny made a very abstract hand motion that he trusted she would realize meant 'Ultimatum Wave.'

"Uh, well, Midtown High thinks I'm dead," Gwen admitted. She hated saying that, but he could probably get the whole story from Peter, so. "And now I think they believe I'm not, but there's a huge overcrowding problem now and they can't fit me in, I guess. So this was the next best option. What about you?"
