BWI Airport Portalocity Lounge- Saturday morning

A few days ago Gwen saw New York destroyed and drowned and her friend/roommate/surrogate brother type was presumed dead for a while- got a really amazing obituary for his alter-ego and everything. Today she was waiting for a portal that was going to take her to a school in Maryland. She was actually looking forward to school, just to get back to doing normal things again, but the timing was weird.

She seemed to be the first one here, and the banner meant she was probably in the right seat, so.

Gwen would be the sullen-looking girl sitting under the glittery Fandom High banner and showing too much midriff. And occasionally brushing at the top of her head with her hand because she was convinced the glitter was probably raining down on her.

"Oh, yeah, I spent years saving up for the shitty school bus just for that purpose," Reno snorted, but he gave the girl a grin all the same. "Nah, I'm one of the teachers up at the school. Teaching a class about public service and everything this semester, yo."

It was probably actually the first very-nearly-legitimate-if-you-squinted classes he'd ever taught. He was kind of proud of himself.

"They have classes on that? Sounds pretty progressive."

Oh you just wait, Gwen.

"Progressive," Reno echoed, pursing his lips thoughtfully. "Yeah, I guess that's one way to put it. We also got classes on food, an intro to technology, sex ed, history, a couple of lit classes..."

And then, realizing that he'd exhausted pretty much every typical high school course not taught by a high-tech simulation, he shrugged and added, "meditation and ass-kicking..."

Gwen blinked. "Wait, what?"

"Taught by the dean of students," Reno added, just a touch too cheerfully. "So you know it's gotta be good. I mean, if you're into that meditation thing."

Who wouldn't be into ass-kicking?

"I think I'd probably suck at it," Gwen said. "Probably a lot."

"The meditation part, or the ass-kicking part?"

Because in that school, you really had to double-check these things.

"Because, I mean, presumably he's gonna teach how to do both so you don't suck at it."

Presumably.

"The meditation part. It just sound so boring," Gwen said.

Reno actually took a moment to cackle and give his hands a clap at that.

"I know, right? Who wants to sit around reflecting or practicing their breathing when they can be punching something. I already know how to breathe, yo."

"I guess it works for the kind of people who actually wear yoga pants to yoga?" she suggested.

"Oh, yeah," Reno agreed with a thoughtful nod. "All the pacifists and moral vegetarians of the world. But then the other half of the class is no good to them, either."

Reno was now officially overthinking this.

"...Moral vegetarians?" she repeated.

"You know, like the ones who choose to eat carrots instead of little baby chickens because the chickens are too cute and they don't wanna take a life," Reno replied with a shrug. "Not because they can't digest it or whatever. It's against their moral code, yo."

Reno was... not the best at political correctness, himself.

Or basic human decency.

"What are we talking about again?" Gwen asked.

"Wearin' yoga pants to Skywalker's class," Reno supplied, not at all helpfully. "And ass-kicking."

"Right. How did I ever lose track of that?" she said.

"I think we took a left turn somewhere around meditation," Reno replied with a shrug. "Might not hurt to get yourself a notebook for the picnic, yo. At this rate, you're gonna need it."

For all of that stuff that was generally impossible to believe on day one, yes.
