BWI Airport Portalocity Lounge- Saturday morning

A few days ago Gwen saw New York destroyed and drowned and her friend/roommate/surrogate brother type was presumed dead for a while- got a really amazing obituary for his alter-ego and everything. Today she was waiting for a portal that was going to take her to a school in Maryland. She was actually looking forward to school, just to get back to doing normal things again, but the timing was weird.

She seemed to be the first one here, and the banner meant she was probably in the right seat, so.

Gwen would be the sullen-looking girl sitting under the glittery Fandom High banner and showing too much midriff. And occasionally brushing at the top of her head with her hand because she was convinced the glitter was probably raining down on her.

Another new guy. Gwen supposed it was good not to be the only new kid at the school?

She gave him a wave.

He could do waving. He could do waving after checking to make sure she wasn't waving at someone behind him and he wasn't about to make a giant fool of himself.

He'd had enough of that lately.

So, he gave her a quick wave and a smile back.

"Here for Fandom?" she checked.

"Yep." He nodded and looked around, eyes falling on the big banner. "Looks like I'm in the right place, at least. I feel like there should be cookies if there's a welcome banner like that around."

"Maybe they're saving them for when we get there," Gwen said dryly.

And then perked up. "I actually do hope there are cookies, though." She was hungry, what.

Talking about cookies made Travis distinctly aware that he had not had anything to eat since about two in the morning. Well, now he really hoped they had cookies too.

"You know anything about this place?" he asked, trying not to think about his hunger.

"Not really. It was kind of a last-minute thing, and I didn't pick it out." Thanks, Tony Stark. "I know it's in Maryland, and they're very accepting of special circumstances."

Like clones of dead girls who couldn't get back into their old school on account of that 'dead' thing.

"That just sounds like it could come back and bite them in the ass," Travis said thoughtfully. "Special circumstances is a very broad label. Never know what you're gonna get with that."

He supposed he fell into that category even if he really wished he didn't.

"Travis," he said, giving her another wave. "I was gonna ask if you fell into the special circumstance category but that feels like prying. So, I'm not gonna do that."

Such a gentleman, right? Right. "You ever seen the beach?" That was better than prying. What little he knew of this place was that it was coastal and he was a little excited about that.

"I've seen the Jersey Shore. Not the show, the actual beach," she offered.

She'd tooootally seen Jersey Shore.

"I've only seen pictures," he replied. "Kansas is very landlocked. Going and sitting on the shore of a river doesn't hold the same allure as a beach does."

"I bet. Kansas rivers are probably prettier than say, the East River, though," Gwen said. "Does Maryland even have beaches?"

"If I remember my geography lessons right -- " And he might be asking too much of himself there, really. " -- I think so. If it doesn't, they shouldn't be too far away. Not that I have a car. Or can even drive."

"Eh, all you really need is reliable public transportation," said the New Yorker.

"Not really something I'm used to," he answered, shrugging. "Everyone drove where I'm from. We had the occasional bus and the taxis that looked a little too sketchy to get in but no subways or anything like that."
