Try Not to Die [Thursday, May 22, 2014]

Anakin was in a black, black mood today, students, so...sorry about that.

"You're going to Tatooine today," he began without preamble. "I'm going to wait here because there aren't enough credits in the multiverse to make me step back on that desolate rock masquerading as a planet again."

Sounds like a great place for a class, doesn't it?

"Tatooine is hot as hell and half as inviting," he continued. "There are two suns blazing overhead and so if you don't wear the ponchos I've provided you have no one but yourself to blame when you come back with a raging sunburn."

He pointed to the portal. "Now go away."

Karina put on her poncho.

Mostly because their newest destination sounded terrible and it gave her something to do rather than dwell on the fact that the teacher was in a terrible mood today. That boded awfully for them.

Alana's hands shook as she fastened her poncho. She didn't know what it was, but she was extra-jumpy today: She'd about bounced out of her skin when someone bumped into her on the walk to class. And Professor Skywalker's mood didn't help -- she didn't think he'd intentionally send them into harm's way, but she could hardly be sure.

Emma managed not to mangle the song too horribly, or if she did the crowd was too drunk to care about it.

Kaylin was in a pretty ugly mood herself. She chose the podracing and reached a new height in swearing, teaching the Neimoidian there a few choice words and picking up a few in his language.

After discovering what it would take to get past this section, she deliberately crashed the sim in increasingly horrifying ways as quickly as she could and was gone in no time, leaving the poor Neimoidian wondering what demon he'd just dealt with.

Kira was feeling super nervous today, but she went for the podracing anyway, since the sim wouldn't kill her... probably. She figured it would be good practice for Driver's Ed, but that was before she started dying horribly. Every death was a little different though, so she figured she should at least get points for that.

Don't ask how Barry got Rock It instead of Rocket.

But he did.

And he cheerfully sang the song as the band threw drinks at him.

And so he had to sing it again.

And again.

And despite the drinks thrown his way he was still delightfully cheerful about it.

Edward was actually a more than half-decent singer, and he was well aware of it - so when he chose to 'Rock It' (whatever that meant) he believed he had a decent chance at doing well.

Which he did.

Unfortunately, he did too well-- and wound up covered in drinks the moment he attempted to leave the stage.

Back on for an encore, then. It was tough being Edward.

Alana went for the podracing and drove very slowly. Even fake high speeds were risky, okay? And she really didn't want to crash.

The Neimodian muttered something about how walking would be faster than Alana's driving, but handed over the clue.

Nathan really didn't want to sing so he chose the Rocket part of the challenge. He...made it once around the arena very slowly but ended up crashing hard the next lap. He managed to get going again before he had another crash.

It was going to be slow going here.

Andros was going to skip the singing. Podracing sounded much more his speed, especially since he had Power Ranger reflexes on his side. He thought he did a decent job, but he would've liked another chance to improve his performance, perfectionist that he was.

So it turned out that moisture farming was very, very boring. Emma was deeply shocked by this development.
notamascot: (What?)

Re: Road Block!

[personal profile] notamascot 2014-05-22 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Kaylin's glare made the poor farmer talk faster and faster and eventually leave off half of the lecture before helping Kaylin get her liter from the atmosphere just to make her leave.
justwantedfriends: ([meh] um are you sure?)

[personal profile] justwantedfriends 2014-05-22 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Kira got a little worried as the farmer explained his job. What if people needed that moisture? What if she messed it up? She tried her best, but she was too cautious to get the job done quickly.

[identity profile] notaweenie.livejournal.com 2014-05-22 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Barry cheerfully waited for the farmer to explain how the evaporators work even though it almost made his brain explode.

Then he spent almost an hour diagramming the device and explaining to the farmer how it could be improved.

The farmer wasn't too pleased with Barry.

That liter took a very long time to get pulled.

Alana appreciated having a nice farm to work on today. It was boring, sure, but it was safe and calm and refreshing. She lingered over her task until the farmer all but shoo'd her on her way.

Re: Road Block!

[identity profile] halfbad.livejournal.com 2014-05-22 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
This whole thing was frustrating and made an impatient person like Nathan get even more irritated. He stuck with it only so he could finish but he was muttering curses by the end of the whole thing.

Andros knew how important water was on a desert world like this (he hated to think how an Aquitian would have fared here), so he paid careful attention to the moisture farmer's instructions, which meant the process of drawing moisture went fairly seamlessly, even if it did take a while and was pretty boring.

"Moisture farming? Really?" Emma had enjoyed this class so much Anakin, really she had.

Jessica had two ponchos. Not only was she very concerned about sunstroke today, but it also gave her an extra layer of protection in case Anakin decided to yell at her, WHICH SEEMED POSSIBLE.

Thank you, security poncho.
