Throughout the lawn, tables and chairs had been set up and scattered, some out in the bright, sunny center of everything, and some in the darker, more remote areas.

Yesterday Sia had turned seventeen and she'd pretty much ignored it. She wouldn't have minded ignoring this too except that it was usually easier to see who was here as they came in rather than maybe running into them in common rooms for the rest of the year. So she got a drink and found a place to sit at a table and tried not to feel too weird that she and Atton wouldn't be finding each other to talk about the new kids this time.

Barry was beginning to feel overloaded from the social aspect of newbie day and parked himself down at a table before realizing someone else was there already.

"If you're new here the food is universally safe to eat but the potato salad has too much relish," he said awkwardly.
