Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Throughout the lawn, tables and chairs had been set up and scattered, some out in the bright, sunny center of everything, and some in the darker, more remote areas.

Eat up, folks! Don't let that food go to waste!

[OCD up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Edward had found a pitcher of water resting on a table somewhere. Looking at the food still made his stomach churn, but the water doused it some. He was sat underneath a tree, not yet presenting his best mood - it was a troubling situation he'd stumbled into - but he felt friendlier by the moment.

At least someone here was dressed halfway normally, and that was reason enough to say hello.

So that was what Anders did.

"Hello," he said. "Mind if I sit by you?"

Someone who dressed properly, and managed a friendly greeting at that? Edward wouldn't argue with it. "Be my guest," he said, waving towards an empty spot. "Didn't I see you right before we got on that contraption this morning?"

Admittedly, his memories of that event were on the fuzzy side.

"I think you did," Anders said, taking a seat in the indicated space. "I would have said hi then, but I don't think either of us were feeling our best. I'm Anders."

"Edward," he offered easily. "So, Anders, did you have any clue about this odd kip? I just woke up here."

This Anders fellow was likely in a similar situation to himself - English, though.

Anders shook his head. "The portal was just supposed to get me out of where I was," he explained. "And --whatever else it is -- this certainly isn't where I was, so I suppose it worked."

"The portal?" Edward echoed.

That sounded interesting. If odd.

"It was like a doorway made out of light," Anders explained. "I'd never seen anything like it, but it was there, so --"

He gestured, indicating he'd gone on through.

"I don't recommend it. Made me sick."

"Sounds more like you were drunk, mate," Edward said, grinning. "I had a similar experience prior to coming here, but I happen to remember the tavern that started it all."

Anders laughed into his hand. "If my friend got me this drunk on the tiny vial he gave me, I'll have to thank him," he said. "This is an entertaining hallucination, if that's what it is."

"It's my reigning theory, at least whenever the hangover's not troubling me," Edward shared. "That, or it's a grand windfall of staggering proportions, waiting to come back and plague me in the shape of misfortune."

"I'm sure it will all come crashing down sooner or later, but we may as well enjoy it up to then," Anders said lightly, and -- realizing why the cadences of Edward's voice sounded vaguely familiar -- glanced at his new friend. "Pardon me if this is a rude thing to say, but you don't look Dalish."

His eyes were a normal size, and there didn't even seem to be any points on his ears!

Now that was an odd non-sequitur. Edward squinted at him. "That would be 'cos I'm from Swansea," he said. "Pembrokeshire's about sixty miles westward from where I'm from."

The English. For God's sake.

Okay, if anyone here was a ruffian or thug, Rapunzel was pretty sure it was this guy. But he still looked nice enough, just -- you know, if she was going to draw a picture of a ruffian or something, he'd look like Edward. Probably. No offense.

But that meant she should probably try to befriend him, so that if he was going to be a ruffian, he at least wouldn't come after her. Right? That made sense to her, and Pascal hadn't voiced any objections when she started wandering over with her hands in her arms.

"Hi! Are you new, too?"

Don't worry, Rapunzel. Edward wasn't a ruffian... yet. Just a scrappy Welsh lad who turned to her with a smile and an, "Aye, I suppose I am. Or at least nearer to it than most of these people."

"Not me, I'm as new as you, probably," Rapunzel replied with a smile. "I'm Rapunzel! It's nice to meet you."

See, ruffians (or proto-ruffians) could totally be nice! She was still going to keep an eye on his teeth for points, though.

Edward's teeth were clearly visible from the smile he was giving, and there were no points where there weren't any on normal human beings. Honest. "I'm Edward," he said. "So how're you finding yourself, Rapunzel? As dazed and confused as the rest of us sorry lot?"

Well. That was a relief. (About the teeth, that is.) He was pretty much okay in her book, now.

"Maybe moreso," she admitted with a giggle. "Did you come here on purpose? 'Cause, uh, I got lost and ended up here. But I hear that's pretty common."

"It is," Edward said, and if he sat forward a bit, gesturing with his hands, it was because sometimes he liked to tap into a bit of theatricality. "One moment, I'm walkin' outside my house looking to go to my bed, the next I find myself sitting amidst a crowd of strangers in a strange building."

"I was in the forest!" Rapunzel said, dropping her hair ~~not her hands wtf self~~ to her feet so she could take a seat in it. "And then all of a sudden that airport place." She shrugged a shoulder thoughtfully. "It...could be worse, though, right? Everyone here seems pretty nice."

So far. She was keeping her eyes peeled for cannibals, too.

"Most of them, aye," Edward said, noting the length of the hair - unusual, but not as odd as the albino boy with the scars on his cheeks. Or the 'dinosaur'. "And they seem to be offering us room and board. What do you think, Rapunzel?Should we look a gift horse in the mouth?"

"I don't know how to get home, anyway," she said sheepishly, shrugging. "I mean...why not?"

Because her mother would be worried sick, and she wouldn't see the floating lights that had drawn her out of her tower in the first place, but Rapunzel was pointedly ignoring those feelings.

"It could be way worse. And my big sibling said there's people from other times and planets and dimensions here." She shook her head, amazed. "There's so much to learn if I stay, you know?"

"You'll have a hell of task before you sorting all the tripe from the truth, I reckon," Edward observed. "Some of what's being told to me can't be true."

The whole planets and dimensions thing, for which he wasn't going to call her odd largely on accounts of her being a pretty girl.

"See, that's what I think, too, but it makes sense, too," Rapunzel said eagerly, shaking her head. "I mean, time-travel certainly seems likely, now. Why not interplanetary travel, or...people with special powers?"

Of which she was one, but she was trying to keep that under-wraps.

So was Edward, but outside of feeling 'special' he didn't exactly have a bead on it yet. He'd be ecstatic when he figured it out.

But right now he let out a laugh. "If you say so," he said. "I just see a particularly odd carnival at the moment."
