Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Throughout the lawn, tables and chairs had been set up and scattered, some out in the bright, sunny center of everything, and some in the darker, more remote areas.

Eat up, folks! Don't let that food go to waste!

[OCD up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Don't worry, Rapunzel. Edward wasn't a ruffian... yet. Just a scrappy Welsh lad who turned to her with a smile and an, "Aye, I suppose I am. Or at least nearer to it than most of these people."

"Not me, I'm as new as you, probably," Rapunzel replied with a smile. "I'm Rapunzel! It's nice to meet you."

See, ruffians (or proto-ruffians) could totally be nice! She was still going to keep an eye on his teeth for points, though.

Edward's teeth were clearly visible from the smile he was giving, and there were no points where there weren't any on normal human beings. Honest. "I'm Edward," he said. "So how're you finding yourself, Rapunzel? As dazed and confused as the rest of us sorry lot?"

Well. That was a relief. (About the teeth, that is.) He was pretty much okay in her book, now.

"Maybe moreso," she admitted with a giggle. "Did you come here on purpose? 'Cause, uh, I got lost and ended up here. But I hear that's pretty common."

"It is," Edward said, and if he sat forward a bit, gesturing with his hands, it was because sometimes he liked to tap into a bit of theatricality. "One moment, I'm walkin' outside my house looking to go to my bed, the next I find myself sitting amidst a crowd of strangers in a strange building."

"I was in the forest!" Rapunzel said, dropping her hair ~~not her hands wtf self~~ to her feet so she could take a seat in it. "And then all of a sudden that airport place." She shrugged a shoulder thoughtfully. "It...could be worse, though, right? Everyone here seems pretty nice."

So far. She was keeping her eyes peeled for cannibals, too.

"Most of them, aye," Edward said, noting the length of the hair - unusual, but not as odd as the albino boy with the scars on his cheeks. Or the 'dinosaur'. "And they seem to be offering us room and board. What do you think, Rapunzel?Should we look a gift horse in the mouth?"

"I don't know how to get home, anyway," she said sheepishly, shrugging. "I mean...why not?"

Because her mother would be worried sick, and she wouldn't see the floating lights that had drawn her out of her tower in the first place, but Rapunzel was pointedly ignoring those feelings.

"It could be way worse. And my big sibling said there's people from other times and planets and dimensions here." She shook her head, amazed. "There's so much to learn if I stay, you know?"

"You'll have a hell of task before you sorting all the tripe from the truth, I reckon," Edward observed. "Some of what's being told to me can't be true."

The whole planets and dimensions thing, for which he wasn't going to call her odd largely on accounts of her being a pretty girl.

"See, that's what I think, too, but it makes sense, too," Rapunzel said eagerly, shaking her head. "I mean, time-travel certainly seems likely, now. Why not interplanetary travel, or...people with special powers?"

Of which she was one, but she was trying to keep that under-wraps.

So was Edward, but outside of feeling 'special' he didn't exactly have a bead on it yet. He'd be ecstatic when he figured it out.

But right now he let out a laugh. "If you say so," he said. "I just see a particularly odd carnival at the moment."

"Well, yeah, but you gotta look at it like the carnival is full of people with stories to tell you, not people who just escaped from the looney bin," Rapunzel confided, giggling. "I know, I know, they all seem crazy, but I don't see why anyone would lie to us, right? What's to gain?"

"Some people just like tormenting others," Edward said, tossing her a faint smile. "But fool's on them if they're trying to bleed us of something, as right now all I've got are the clothes on my back."

Rapunzel's smile faded, and she began to worriedly play with a lock of her hair. "Yeah," she added, a bit unconvincingly. "I didn't come here with anything of value, either. Just the clothes I'm wearing, and well, Pascal."

And from behind one ear appeared a little green chameleon, dropping his camouflage and making an indignant little meep.

"No, Pascal, I'm not going to sell you to tricksters. Don't worry."

"Could probably make a fair pound off of a creature like that," Edward said, but he wasn't about to take a young girl's pet. Especially not on a hangover. "I'll keep an eye out for you in case things do go sour."

"Thanks," Rapunzel said, brightening back up a little. "I'll watch out for you, too."

Which was probably sounded sort of silly, coming from a girl her size, but Rapunzel was pretty resourceful. Besides, she'd never had much of anyone to offer to look out for, anyway.

"Where'd you come from, anyway? I mean, where were you before this?" His clothes were enough like what she knew men of Corona wore to make her wonder.

"I'm from Bristol," Edward said, though he'd pertinently refused to give up his Swansea accent and it was clear as day whenever he spoke. "England. According to some, a couple of hundred years before whenever this is, but I haven't decided whether I believe that as of yet."

He gave her a nod. "Yourself?"

"Corona," she said, raising her brows. "I don't know much about England, but no one here's heard of Corona yet, either, so I guess that makes sense. And I promise not making that up. Sorry to be one of the crazy people. Oh, and I think I'm probably from the past, too."

She was taking all of this fairly well, really.

"Can't say I've heard of Corona either," said Edward. He'd largely decided to move any further bursts of what-the-bloody-hell to the evening, when he planned to go to this Caritas and use what few coins he had left in his pocket to get blazingly drunk again. "But God, I suspect that's going to be happening to me quite a bit whenever I have these talks."

Rapunzel nodded eagerly. "This is why I've stopped thinking everyone's crazy," she said, simply. "It's kind of easier just to go with it and be interested instead, you know?"

Particularly since she'd been fending off questions about her own unusual appearance, and knew she'd keep having to.
