Plus We Have a Motorcade [Thursday, April 3, 2014]

"All those in favor of pretending most of this last semester never happened, say 'aye'," Josh said, coming into the classroom. "So ordered. Okay, so when the President goes out, a great easy photo-op is to stop in at a local food place and take a picture with the owner. You can talk about the importance of small business, health insurance, increasing the minimum wage or whatever, plus you get a tasty meal out of it." He clapped his hands together. "So today's very difficult assignment: if you were visiting Washington DC, Chicago, and Austin, what would you order?"

It was possible Josh was just hungry today.

"Might I suggest we watch television after class?" He felt this would prove most amusing.

"Are you going to make me watch one of those fake news shows?"

It was possible that Raven thought all modern news shows were fake news shows.

"Only two are fake in the sad actuality of the matter," Loki replied. "And yet sometime provide more news than the 'real' programs."

"The one that only talks about plane crashes has to be one of the fake ones."

Loki sir pressed a smile, nodding encouragingly. "I am certain you will be proven right. Eventually."

"In my time," Raven said, because a 16 year old doing the 'in my day' schtick was totally a reasonable thing, "the news had to actually report news."

Or, you know, propaganda presented as news. Mostly that second thing.

"I think you are just precious," Loki announced. "I think we ought to be the very best of friends."

Somewhere... some version of Magneto was not okay with this.

"Do you still think you're a very short blue frost giant god?" Raven asked. Not because this was a deal breaker. It was just useful information to have.

Loki sighed. "I like you older and far more murderous."

. . . Wait, what?

"I'm not murderous."

She hadn't even been that traumatized yet, after all.

"My apologies. More... mercurial?"

IT WOULD HAPPEN, DON'T WORRY.

"I don't know what you're talking about," Raven said a little primly, though even she had to admit it was an apt term. "I'm just a perfectly normal teenager."

Who could shapeshift.

"Who is a shapeshifter." Thanks, Loki.

Raven rolled her eyes. It worked well to disguise the way she then shifted them side to side to see if anyone reacted to that information badly. "Yes, fine, who's a shapeshifter."

"You are from when mutants are new, are you not?" Like Loki cared about those reactions.

"Well, before anyone knows about us, at least," Raven said. "We don't actually know if we're totally new or not."

"Ah," Loki said, thinking of Evan now. "I might offer you warning that the first of your species is best left be."

"Wait, you mean you know who that is?"

"Yes." Well, thanks, Loki. "But there are others! You might have better luck with Namor."

Ahahahahahano.

"There's more than one?" Raven asked. "Wait, how do you know all of this? Did they find a mutant mummy in Egypt or something?"

Loki blinked at that. "Oh no, he is still alive."

Ish. Maybe.

"I would be, like, nintety by now."

76, actually. Ish. Maybe.

"Yes you would," Loki replied enthusiastically. "Namor, if I recall correctly, was active in the Second World War of Midgard. And the first of your kind makes him but a babe in arms."

ALL STILL ALIVE SOMEHOW.

"Midgard?" Raven asked. "Is that from Tolkein?"

SORRY NOT SORRY.

"That would be Middle Earth," Loki assured her. "Midgard is this earthly plain."
