"All those in favor of pretending most of this last semester never happened, say 'aye'," Josh said, coming into the classroom. "So ordered. Okay, so when the President goes out, a great easy photo-op is to stop in at a local food place and take a picture with the owner. You can talk about the importance of small business, health insurance, increasing the minimum wage or whatever, plus you get a tasty meal out of it." He clapped his hands together. "So today's very difficult assignment: if you were visiting Washington DC, Chicago, and Austin, what would you order?"

It was possible Josh was just hungry today.

"Well, before anyone knows about us, at least," Raven said. "We don't actually know if we're totally new or not."

"Ah," Loki said, thinking of Evan now. "I might offer you warning that the first of your species is best left be."

"Wait, you mean you know who that is?"

"Yes." Well, thanks, Loki. "But there are others! You might have better luck with Namor."

Ahahahahahano.

"There's more than one?" Raven asked. "Wait, how do you know all of this? Did they find a mutant mummy in Egypt or something?"

Loki blinked at that. "Oh no, he is still alive."

Ish. Maybe.

"I would be, like, nintety by now."

76, actually. Ish. Maybe.

"Yes you would," Loki replied enthusiastically. "Namor, if I recall correctly, was active in the Second World War of Midgard. And the first of your kind makes him but a babe in arms."

ALL STILL ALIVE SOMEHOW.

"Midgard?" Raven asked. "Is that from Tolkein?"

SORRY NOT SORRY.

"That would be Middle Earth," Loki assured her. "Midgard is this earthly plain."

"I've only heard it called 'Earth'," Raven said. "Or maybe 'Terra'." Hey, she read science fiction, sometimes, okay? "Wait, wouldn't that make this Namor guy part of World War II? I remember World War II. It wasn't that long ago."

Especially not when you were from 1954.

"Did you not have a Captain America?" Because he was just so dreamy and patriotic.

"Not that I remember."

Mind you, she'd been, like, seven in 1945.

DAMN IT ALL.

"...how strange."

"It seems like there are several universes with mutants," Raven offered. "A boy I met this weekend said his had mutants, but it didn't seem to have my brother or I at all."

Of course, Jamie had been lying, but who was Raven to know that?

"Who might your brother be?"

"Charles Xavier," Raven said.

She wondered if Loki would choke on anything.

"Oh my. That is different."

"Why?" Raven asked. No one ever told her why they choked when she talked about Charles. "Do you have one of him in your world?"

THERE WERE REASONS.

"I have heard the name," Loki hedged.

"And does he have a sister?"

"I've heard of a brother." Hey thar, Juggernaut.

"I think I'd know if my brother had a brother," Raven said. "Wait, am I a boy in your world?" Now there was an interesting idea.

Loki seemed to consider that for a moment. "I believe you could be should you choose."

"Well, yeah," Raven said. "That would be pretty easy."

She had actually woken up on the morning of her first genderswap wondering why she had shifted to have boy parts in her sleep.
