Library [12/12]

The library was starting to look a little lived-in, with all the researchers running about. John had brought a box of donuts and thrown it on one table, and chaos was reigning as the books were piling up.

It was the librarian manning the desk today, in between circling the library to check his wards and make sure no one was doing any stupid shite. The "No Guns in the Library" sign was displayed prominently again, and the box below it would be happy to hold your weaponry while you were researching.

Isabelle wasn't so much with the intellectual, but she knew this was where the people who had a grasp on the bigger picture of the situation where generally spending their time.

She was probably going to go out and kill things later, though. It was in her blood. Also, some of those things had killed her brother yesterday, and even though he was fine now, that was Not Okay.

But she was here for now. Poking at things. Mostly not doing anything useful.

Mike wandered in sometime after noon, and placed the shotgun he was carrying in the box. (Although the bulge in the small of his back was staying right where it was, thank you very much.)

He stuck his hands in his pockets and looked around for a while, just watching the people doing whatever it was they were doing.

After talking to Doctor Tannis, Jessica defied library rules, stood up on a table, and called out, "In the professional opinion of our consulting scientist, it's time to arm ourselves. The vending machine guns should be safe for us to use and customize. If you have any questions on customization, please see me or any of your other local engineers, because I'll be getting the word out. I'll be quiet now. Thank you."

Talk to Dr. Tannis - Research

[identity profile] pandora-goodies.livejournal.com 2013-12-12 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Dr. Tannis had considered hanging up a big DO NOT DISTURB sign in front of the camera at her end. She'd considered it. But – sigh – she supposed she needed to make due with just looking generally unapproachable. It wasn't hard. She had a tendency to frown a lot and mutter to herself while she worked, and she was currently pouring over the various data she'd received from Fandom.

And, well, sometimes she supposed she needed to be approached. For updates and the exchange of information, and such.

She looked up at the camera (and consequently out of the screen in the library), and cleared her throat. "Excuse me, people of Fandom? Well, a person of Fandom. The attention of just one would suffice."

"A person of Fandom speaking," Jessica said when she answered the phone. Camera. Communicator. Thing. "How's it going?"

"Abysmally," Tannis sighed, although admittedly she might have been talking about her feelings on social interaction. "Has the Vault key been located yet? Or has Jack given any indication he has it?"

She was not so much with the small talk.

Talk to the Dr. Tannis: SIDE MISSION: Snoogans

[identity profile] pandora-goodies.livejournal.com 2013-12-12 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh, people. At least they weren't actually in the lab with Dr. Tannis, but it was still unpleasant for her, even via a video call. That hustling and bustling and people randomly coming in to see if they could be helpful, ugh.

Maybe she could make some of them leave, at least for a while. She checked her data on the town and its stores and services, then looked up at the camera, and into the library.

"Excuse me, young man." A beat. "Well, I am relatively sure you are one, anyway."

Isaac had been torn between laying low and wanting to help during this weird ass crisis so it had led to him laying low in public. Which did not turn out too well considering he was now being spoken to.

"Uh...hi?" Smooth. "Yes, I'm a young man." Smoother.

"Marvelous!"

Not really, but at least she was past that time in her life where she would've gotten a massive nosebleed just at the idea of talking to him.

"Young man, I have a task for you. Your companions in the library require nourishment." If Constantine's box of donuts was in her camera's view, she was choosing to ignore it. "My data indicates a convenience store on the eastern part of the island, and that they sell snack foods. I believe these 'Kwik Stop' snack foods will be just the thing everyone needs."

Or she'd picked the place that was the furthest from the library. But he didn't need to know that.

"So, you should go there."

Talk to the Dr. Tannis: SIDE MISSION: Where Angels Fear Etc.

"For the love of ––"

Yes, smacking electronics (even highly delicate scientific instruments) in the hopes that they'd work properly was a multiversal thing. As Tannis had just demonstrated. And now it was time to accept that the fault didn't lie with her equipment, but with what it was attempting to process.

Once again, it was time for Dr. Tannis to swallow her hatred of communication to try and grab the attention of someone on the other side of the screen. "You there!"

Politely.

As campus security, Bo suspected that No Guns In The Library didn't (and probably shouldn't) apply to her, but she might as well set a good example. She dropped hers in the box before walking back to find out... who she could eavesdrop on, mostly. Research wasn't her strong suit, but getting an idea of what other people had come up with couldn't hurt. They might need something (or someone) done that did require her talents.

The knife strapped to her leg, though? That was staying. Though it wasn't going to be much use in defending herself against an unexpected voice from a monitor, which didn't stop her from pulling it as she turned around.

"Me here?"

"Yes, you."

See, she was ever so helpful with the clarification and all.

"Are you familiar with this –- the preserve area, in the north?"

Mike wandered up to the guy who looked like he was at least somewhat in charge here. "If I were to ask you if you knew what the hell was going on, would you have a useful answer for me?"

Re: Talk to Constantine

[identity profile] fix-it-guy.livejournal.com 2013-12-12 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Mike declined the pack with a polite wave. "You sound like exactly the guy I want to talk to. I'd like the best answer you can give me -- the most accurate, the most complete, but not too long. Don't sugar-coat it, and don't leave out anything that sounds too crazy to believe. I'm a big boy and I can handle myself."

Isabelle dared!

"So is it the usual order of things around here for librarians to use blood magic to protect their books?"

She couldn't help asking, after yesterday.

Isabelle tilted her head.

"So what are you?"

Her Marks – the black runes along her arms, the side of her neck, what little was exposed of the top of her chest – were technically glamoured into invisibility, but she didn't think that fooled Constantine's eye. Those who used blood to keep parts of a library safe usually believed. And those who believed, also saw.

Apologies, but I'm confused (first real BDE here) - are the side missions for anyone unless otherwise specified, or were they all previously arranged?
seveninchmotto: ([pos] Little smirk.)

Re: OOC

[personal profile] seveninchmotto 2013-12-12 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
All side missions were previously RNGed and assigned to specific people, yes, although you can still keep an eye on the brainstorming posts in the OOC comm for possible spots in other people's missions!

Also, yes, what Ahddie said above me: all BDE questions are best directed at the related posts in the OOC comm, as the admin team isn't handling library posts. We have much too pretty a library staff available for that!
