It took Peter a moment to stop admiring Sam's outfit because, y'know, teenage boy seeing leather pants. But after that, he said, "Slightly miserable, trying not to let that keep me down. There are couples to be mocked. There will surely be dancing to be mocked. It shouldn't be hard to get into a decent mood."

"As far as your outfit, I wouldn't worry about it. It's a dance of misery. Wear what you want to, dammit!"

Dances, definitely not somewhere Mac's comfortable, although shockingly, she did actually dress up. Heading to the corner of people least likely to be requesting love-songs, definitely seems like a good choice.

"Hey, I've come to join the ranks of snarky and unattached. You lot found any good mocking material yet?"

"Hey, Mac," Peter said. "Not yet, but the night is young and the punch seems to be unspiked. So there's plenty of time."

"I think I might avoid the punch this evening. Just in case." She pulls a face, "I already have this mental image of myself doing something humiliating. I'd prefer not to make it reality".

Re: Snark Corner

[identity profile] peter--parker.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
"The punch is probably okay for now. I figure you have at least a half hour to safely get a drink." Peter shrugged. "But I'm right there with you about not wanting to make a fool of myself. That's why I'm not moving from this corner unless I'm dragged off."

"Staying right here is probably a wise move. I will be doing the same, at least until the sappy music gets to me, then I'll go sit in the corridor or something." She gave a half-smile. "Crowds really aren't my thing, at all".

Re: Snark Corner

[identity profile] peter--parker.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Peter looked around and smiled. "Ironically, this corner seems to be the biggest crowd around. Funny how that works out."

[identity profile] imac-kenzie.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
"That just tells us we aren't alone in being bitter and single, which is a little reassuring." She shrugged, "and I guess people are avoiding the dancefloor, which is kinda normal when it comes to school dances. At least for the first half-hour or so. I'm sure that'll change soon enough."

Re: Snark Corner

[identity profile] peter--parker.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
"And then the snark begins in earnest," Peter said. "It's nice to know the timeline for this kind of thing."

Re: Snark Corner

[identity profile] imac-kenzie.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah, yep. I went to a few of these out of curiosity, and a little because my mother made me, at my last school." She motioned her head towards the dancefloor, "ten minutes tops, and there will be someone with hideous clothes or dancemoves from the 80's to keep us entertained."

Re: Snark Corner

[identity profile] peter--parker.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
"As long as they look foolish, it's okay by me," Peter said. "I mostly managed to avoid these things. Except when I actually had a girlfriend, but that's a whole different perspective on the thing. Then it's mostly tolerable."

Re: Snark Corner

[identity profile] imac-kenzie.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
"When there isn't anyone to go to a dance with, the entire point seems a little lost on me." She sighed, "then again, I'm here. This is all part of my 'get out more' plan. I decided there is always the chance there might be some unexpected amusement, like drunken people or alien attack, the usual."

Re: Snark Corner

[identity profile] peter--parker.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
"That's the key: positive thinking," Peter chuckled. "But 'get out more' plans are good. I need to do a little more of that myself, I think."

Re: Snark Corner

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Why are you slightly miserable? And let the mocking start. Think there'll be singing?" She smiled at him. "Thanks. Although I don't remember seeing 'dance of misery' on the posters."

Re: Snark Corner

[identity profile] peter--parker.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
"I got dumped last month. Valentine's Day is evil." Peter felt this explained it all.

"'Dance of Misery' was implied with the words 'Valentine's Day.'" He nodded for emphasis.

"Oh, yikes," Sam said, wincing. "Sorry about that. If it makes you feel any better, I had to break up with my boyfriend's answering machine because I never saw him. Wednesday."

Re: Snark Corner

[identity profile] peter--parker.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
"Ouch," Peter cringed. "I think you win. Not only do you get to wear whatever the hell you want, but you also get to attempt to drown somebody in the punch bowl if you want. It's the rules."

Re: Snark Corner

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
"Remember you said that when I end up in detention." Sam eyed the punch bowl and wondered if it had been spiked yet.

Re: Snark Corner

[identity profile] peter--parker.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
"I'll provide a distraction if you need. Just say the word," Peter joked. Probably joked.

Peter held up his cup. "And it's still safe as of five minutes ago if you want to risk it. No, nobody has been drowned in it, either."

Re: Snark Corner

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Sam grinned. "I'll wait, then. Not the same without additional flavoring."

Re: Snark Corner

[identity profile] peter--parker.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Sometimes it's a little too watered down at this point," Peter said. "That little extra flavor is useful on nights like tonight."

Re: Snark Corner

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
"It's true. Sometimes patience is a virtue." She glanced around the room. "So, who would you vote to have covered in a bucket of pig's blood by the end of the night?"

Re: Snark Corner

[identity profile] peter--parker.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Hmm. I don't know yet," Peter said as he scanned the crowd. "See anyone wearing a tiara? If so, then she's my choice."

Re: Snark Corner

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
"In this school, it could just as easily be a guy or a puppy in the tiara. Then what?"

Re: Snark Corner

[identity profile] peter--parker.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Good point. Well, the first person in a tiara should get the pig's blood, I think. I have no clue where to get pig's blood at this time of night - or at all during the day - so I'll leave that up to someone else."
