Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were plenty of tables and chairs scattered around the lawn for anyone who wanted to sit down once they'd had their fill of the buffet, or to recover from starting to find out what this place was all about. No one would judge the need to take a mental breather.

Seriously Fandom, wtf flower crowns?

Some of the tables were out in the open, for those who weren't allergic to the sun, and some of the tables were in the shade, or far from the rest of the crowd for those who needed a little more space to process. Wherever people decided to rest, there was space enough for everyone.

[OOC: This is part two of the picnic, separated in an effort to save our browsers for as long as possible. Part one, to run into siblings, roommates and teachers, is over here, though teachers are also welcome in this post, of course. Because the picnic is outside, it is open to all students, teachers and townies!]

Raven was making the whole floral crown thing work for her. She was wearing a soft little white dress -- what? It wasn't Labor Day yet, and besides, she was really starting to dig the white outfit look -- and had brought out a little blanket to spread out in a nice shady spot with a plate of food, picnic style.

Next time, maybe she'd try out being a big sister. For now, she was content just to sit back and enjoy watching the new kids try to take their crowns off.

Danny had taken in the girl's blanket with a look of appraisal.

"You've got the whole set-up and everything," he noted with approval.

"I like to be prepared," Raven said. "You're one of the new students?"

"Sure am," he said. "The name's Danny Vasquez. What's yours?"

"Raven Darkholme," Raven said. "Where are you from, Danny?"

"Neomars," Danny said, pointing upwards, "up there. In the future. How about yourself? You local?"

"Oh no, I'm not sure anyone's actually local around here. I'm from New York, in the past. Sixty years past, to be precise."

Danny looked up to do some quick math, forgot exactly what year he'd gone back to, and decided to forget about it. "Awesome," he said with a grin, "fellow time traveler! Did you make your own time machine, too?"

Raven blinked. "No. My brother's the scientist in the family, and he's into genetics, not . . ." What kind of science would time travel fall under? "Adventurous physics?"

"Oh, good," said Danny, "I'd hate to think I'd be competing with your brother for best adventurous physics dude."

True, he'd only just heard the phrase for the first time today, but it was completely being adopted as a legit thing now>

Raven would be proud to learn she'd coined a phrase.

"Do you make a lot of time machines? Or, well, I suppose you wouldn't really need more than one, personally, would you?"

"You look a lot better with the flowers than I think I do," Theo said, wandering over when he saw his roommate. "Mine's itchy."

Which meant he was constantly scratching it and knocking it askew.

"It's all in the confident look," Raven said, patting the blanket to invite him to sit down. "And not fussing with it, too much. You've got it on crooked, now."

"Do I?" He tried to take it off again and it just reappeared. Theo sat down beside her with a sigh and tried to adjust it again. "Can you tell I'm not really used to wearing stuff like this?"

"I never would have guessed," Raven said dryly. She reached over to adjust it a little. "I think it's cute. The itching isn't any good, though. Is it a real itch, or just a 'I'm not used to things resting there so it feels weird' itch?"

"...the second one," Theo said after thinking about it. "It's like when you wear a tie and you just constantly pull at it because you're not used to it being around your neck."

He was not a fan of ties. "Ange, she likes it. Thinks it makes me look cute too."

"Ange has good taste." Raven leaned back on her hands, crossing her legs at the ankles. "You know, I've never worn a tie. Not a real one. I've turned into men wearing ties. . . ."

"Well, you're free to borrow the one tie I have," he laughed, rubbing at his neck just in memory. "I bet you'd look better in it than I would."

He nodded. "Yeah, I'm pretty sure of that, in fact."

"Or I could look exactly like you would in it," Raven said. Because, well. It was true. Not that she'd morph into Theo without asking him first. Probably. He was all nice and sweet and roommate-y. It'd be rude. "The crowns are a nice touch, I think," she said. "Gives the new students a harmless little introduction to just how strange things can be around here."

"Oh, don't morph into me," he joked with a laugh. "It'd be like looking into an ugly mirror. No one else needs this mug."

He gave his cheek a pat and snickered.

"But yeah, it's a nice touch. Good thing none of the crowns look like they're about to come alive or are made of poison ivy."

"I hadn't thought of that," Raven said. "Talk about itchy, if they were." She wrinkled her nose. "That would just be mean."

"Yeah." Theo nodded. "But, it looks like it's just nice flowers, some bigger than others."

Theo reached up and adjusted his. Again. Because it was phantom itchy and he wasn't used to things being on his head.

"Mine doesn't fit." It fit fine.

"It'll probably stop bothering you if you stop fiddling with it," Raven said. "Relax and enjoy the day. You look cute."

"Easier said than done," Theo said, making a face at himself before pulling his hands away and sitting on them. "You've got permission to smack my hands if I try it again. I'll try to relax and continue to...look cute."

Yeah, that made him laugh quietly.

"Don't think I won't," Raven teased. "And I bet Ange and Dev are on my side."
