Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were plenty of tables and chairs scattered around the lawn for anyone who wanted to sit down once they'd had their fill of the buffet, or to recover from starting to find out what this place was all about. No one would judge the need to take a mental breather.

Seriously Fandom, wtf flower crowns?

Some of the tables were out in the open, for those who weren't allergic to the sun, and some of the tables were in the shade, or far from the rest of the crowd for those who needed a little more space to process. Wherever people decided to rest, there was space enough for everyone.

[OOC: This is part two of the picnic, separated in an effort to save our browsers for as long as possible. Part one, to run into siblings, roommates and teachers, is over here, though teachers are also welcome in this post, of course. Because the picnic is outside, it is open to all students, teachers and townies!]

"It's...tough," he said for lack of a better word. "I mean, I've gotten used to it and sometimes I can tune it out but they're loud sometimes. And it gets crowded in there and on a bad day, I feel like a puppet."

"Do they ever go away for awhile, or are they always around, even when they're quiet?"

"Always there," he said and tapped the side of his head somewhat fondly. "They were gone for a little while but there were circumstances and they weren't supposed to be gone so I think we're together for the duration."

"I can't even imagine. My brother's telepathic, so he hears other people in his head, sometimes, but he can at least turn it off."

"My brother -- "

Well, that was his first mention of Mitchell out loud.

"This runs in the family. He had it too."

"I didn't know you had a brother," Raven said. She'd noticed the past tense, but wasn't sure if she should comment on it. "Older or younger?"

"Older," Theo said and looked down. But, he smiled, at least. "So, just to get the sadness out of the way, he's dead. Uh, no one else here knows that. Sorry, don't mean to dump it on you. Just -- it would be hard to talk about him without telling you."

"I'm sorry," Raven said. "And I don't mind. I like that we can tell each other things."

"Yeah." He thought about it for a second and actually liked that they could too. It was nice to have someone to talk to since Thom and Kiori weren't here. "No, yeah, you're right. It's a good thing. And I'm always afraid I'll forget him if I don't talk about him."

Raven shook her head. "You won't," she said firmly. "Did he have Ange and Dev, or were they different aliens?"

"Different," he said after a moment. "He didn't tell me a lot about them. He struggled more than I did with the additional visitors. Didn't deal with it very well."

"Is that how he, uh." He could figure out what she meant, right?

"It...contributed," Theo said slowly. "Mitchell, he uh, did it to himself. Couldn't take it."

"Oh no!" Raven shook her head. "I'm so sorry."

"Oh, it's okay," Theo said, rubbing one of his eyes and marveling at how quiet Ange and Dev were right now. "It was awhile ago and I know Mitchell was in a lot of pain. I miss him but I hope he feels better, you know?"

Raven nodded. "I hope this doesn't sound mean, but I'm glad you're handling it better than that. The aliens."

"Yeah, me too." Theo chuckled quietly. "I don't know what the difference is between me and him but I guess I'm -- "

He stopped short because he didn't know what he could say and not sound offensive.

"Lucky."

Having not known Mitchell, Raven certainly couldn't disagree with whatever assesments Theo made.

"Well, this is entirely too depressing a conversation for a welcome picnic," she decided. "We'll have to pick a new topic."

"Oh god, yes please," Theo said and laughed again. "Anything but this. I'd appreciate it."

"What classes are you taking?"

"Uh." Theo paused for a second to remember what he'd signed up for this time around. "An American history class and a class about working together. What about you?"

"Science, history, literature, something called 'Breaking Things' and one about stealing princesses. I have no idea how I ended up in those last two."

"Wow, I feel lazy now," Theo said, laughing again. "Okay, so while you're out being all smart and learning to break things and steal princesses, I'll make sure the room is clean and I'll cook."

He probably wouldn't cook because that was just a bad thing unless a microwave was involved.

"It's all Charles' fault. He insists on signing me up for all my classes. I'd appreciate the help with the chores, though."

"I'll definitely help," he assured her easily. "I mean, I can try to cook but unless it's in a microwave, I probably won't be very good. But, I'll definitely clean up. And I can shop without breaking things too!"
