BWI Airport Portalocity Lounge, Saturday Morning

The glittery enthusiasm of the 'Fandom High' banner strung across the wall was a little unexpected, but at least it confirmed Vider was where she was supposed to be, even if no one else appeared to be here yet. That part wasn't surprising, considering how early her flight had gotten in, but she seemed to be dealing with the earliness of the hour remarkably well. It might have had something to do with the fact that she was getting used to never getting quite enough sleep any more.

One of the trainers at the Hangadrottin War College had shoved a wad of unfamiliar money into her hand this morning, 'for the journey,' like she was going to some foreign country and not just the East coast. Still, she wasn't going to turn down money so she'd taken it without complaint and used some of it to buy a tea and pastry for breakfast, and once she picked out a seat by the wall where she could prop her spear case and sword up, she settled in to eat, picking the pastry apart into little shreds before putting them in her mouth.

So far this boarding school thing didn't seem so bad, although she was reserving final judgment until she'd actually seen the school.

Raleigh shifted the strap of his bag a few times before getting it somewhere comfortable. He wasn't nervous about this or anything. Hell no. This was just starting a different high school than expected. Across the country.

So. There was that.

Vider lifted a hand in greeting to him. "Fandom High?" she checked.

"Fandom High," Raleigh confirmed, not staring at the tattoo at all. It had to be a sticker, right? Right?

It was definitely not a sticker, Raleigh. "Well, that makes two of us," she said. "I'm sure there will be others along sooner or later."

Yeah, well. It was a facial tattoo. And she didn't look like Mike Tyson to him.

"Cool." It was not cool at all. "I'm Raleigh."

"Vider," she said. "Vider Bearskin. Pleased to meet you." What kind of a name was Raleigh?

"Vider," he replied, trying to wrap his tongue around it. "That's cool. Does it mean something?"

"It's just a name," she said, because if Raleigh wasn't familiar with Lokiskin naming practices, she wasn't going to enlighten him on why she was named 'diversion.' "Does Raleigh?" Besides 'my parents were terrible at this'?

"It's a city." Because that was totally the same. No, Raleigh. No. "I got the good name. My brother is Yancy."

Raleigh grinned because it was possibly an old joke and it totally worked there. "Where are you from?"

"Uh, around?" Vider tried. "I was with a caravan before."

"Oh." That sounded not fun at all. "We traveled around some too when I was younger."

"So what do you know about this place?" Alana asked curiously. The guy looked nervous; she wondered if maybe he knew something she didn't.

Raleigh shook his head, trying not to fiddle with his bag anymore. "Just that it's on the east coast."

And way far from San Francisco.

Other than that it wasn't Landfall.

Alana laughed, mostly out of discomfort. "I'm from Landfall?" she tried. "I mean, I've seen Earth on star charts and stuff, but I never paid that much attention in astral geography. Kind of weird to randomly go to school here knowing nothing, I know, but ..."

She shrugged, wings fluttering with the motion. "Here I am."
