Flight- Monday- 3rd period

The class met in the Danger Shop one last time, where it was set up to look like a jungle. Because. Jaina herself was standing next to an X-wing. A StealthX, specifically, because she didn't think anyone from her galaxy had as much experience with this model than anyone else. She at least had to try and level the playing field.

"First off, I'd apologize for missing last week's class, but something tells me no one's that torn up about it," Jaina began. "It's been great teaching you this semester, and hopefully I'll see some of you next time.

"So. Your final. You should remember the X-wing," she said. "There's one in here for each of you, and none of them are working right. You need to get it working, and then you need to successfully lift off and fly out of here. That's all you've got to do."

Who'll miss this class, aww.

Anakin wasn't really in the mood to repair crashed ships in the jungle today. Funny, that. He'd do it, if he had to, but not without talking to Jaina first.

"Will you believe me if I say I pretty much just did this final?"

It could have been a joke, but he looked too tired and preoccupied to really put the effort into it.

"Yes," Jaina said, because she'd had to do this final a couple times, too. "You okay?"

Not that she'd been worried or anything.

He opened his mouth to say that yes, he was, but shook his head. "Not really. But you can probably guess why."

"Yeah." She didn't know all the details, since she'd been sort of back and forth between places while all this was going on in her time, but she knew the important stuff. Kind of hard to miss the important stuff, actually... "I'm sorry I couldn't warn you."

Anakin huffed a mirthless laugh. "Don't be. I'd have run off even faster if you had, and be in an even worse mess -- thanks for bailing other-me out, by the way."

Look, he could even admit it now.

"That's what I'm there for," Jaina replied. "How's Tahiri doing?"

Anakin visibly flinched. "Not great," he replied honestly. "I should go back and spend more time with her."

He bit his lip. "You were right, you know. You and the other Tahiri. I really should have done that before."

Yay, one more thing he could guilt about.

"You had to figure it out on your own," Jaina said. "As long as you're available for her now."

Anakin nodded. "I'm going back to the Errant Venture, at least for a while, after finals. I'm not going on any more missions until she's better." He ran a hand through his hair. "Since what they did to her -- that's all my fault."

If he could file legal claims on blame, he would.

"Unless you actually did it, it's not your fault," Jaina said, feeling a bit of déjà vu as she'd just said this to another Anakin a week ago.

Like the brooding, having Jaina say these things just went with the name.

"I did, though," Anakin insisted. "Her, and Sannah, and Valin -- they all decided to sneak away and stay behind to help defend the temple. Valin said it was because they wanted to be like me. So whose fault does that make it, if it isn't mine?"

"So if you grew up wanting to be like Uncle Luke or I wanted to be like Mom, that's their fats?" Jaina countered. "I'm going to take it you didn't know they were using you as an example?"

"No." Jaina made an excellent point, but Anakin wasn't willing to let logic get in the way of a good guilt-fest just yet, because he lifted his chin and went on stubbornly, "But I might've known if I'd bothered to talk to them more."

"Then now you know to be better about that from now on."

It must suck to have a pragmatist for a sister.

It did make sustaining a good, prolonged fit of moodiness difficult. Seriously, Jaina.

"Sure," Anakin muttered, kicking at the floor. "For all the good that'll do everything I've already messed up."

"Look, Anakin, I know it was bad there," Jaina told him. "And I'm not going to say I wouldn't feel bad if it was me. But you can't change any of it, and the important thing is to learn from it moving forward."

Learning things like maybe not being so reckless in the future, hint hint.

It wasn't that the hint went over his head. It was just that he thought everyone was overly concerned about it.

Rather than get visibly annoyed about that, Anakin just offered, "Well, I did learn a few things, at least?"

"Such as?" she asked.

"That we've been looking at things the wrong way when it comes to dealing with the Yuuzhan Vong," he said very seriously. "That it's not fair, or even right, to use the fact that they don't exist in the Force as proof that they're evil. I'm not saying their actions are justified," he went on in a hurry, "but the wrongness of those actions don't have anything to do with their absence from the Force."

"Agreed," Jaina said. "Their actions are pretty good proof in itself."

Someone to this day still hated the Vong. Spoiler: it was Jaina.

~~OMG SPOILERS.~~ Well, she had good reason to, really.

Anakin inclined his head to acknowledge that. "At the moment, I really, really can't argue with you there."

Was there a clear edge of anger in his voice? Well. Yes.

"Need to rant?" Jaina asked, hearing that edge.

"What they did to her," Anakin said, biting off the words. "I felt it. I'm going to do everything I can to make sure she gets better, but . . ."

He bit his lip. "It'll never be the same again, will it?"

Jaina shook her head. "She'll be okay," she said, even if two put of three Tahiris had gone out of their way to test that. "But there's not any going back to the way things were, no."
