Flight- Monday- 3rd period

The class met in the Danger Shop one last time, where it was set up to look like a jungle. Because. Jaina herself was standing next to an X-wing. A StealthX, specifically, because she didn't think anyone from her galaxy had as much experience with this model than anyone else. She at least had to try and level the playing field.

"First off, I'd apologize for missing last week's class, but something tells me no one's that torn up about it," Jaina began. "It's been great teaching you this semester, and hopefully I'll see some of you next time.

"So. Your final. You should remember the X-wing," she said. "There's one in here for each of you, and none of them are working right. You need to get it working, and then you need to successfully lift off and fly out of here. That's all you've got to do."

It must suck to have a pragmatist for a sister.

It did make sustaining a good, prolonged fit of moodiness difficult. Seriously, Jaina.

"Sure," Anakin muttered, kicking at the floor. "For all the good that'll do everything I've already messed up."

"Look, Anakin, I know it was bad there," Jaina told him. "And I'm not going to say I wouldn't feel bad if it was me. But you can't change any of it, and the important thing is to learn from it moving forward."

Learning things like maybe not being so reckless in the future, hint hint.

It wasn't that the hint went over his head. It was just that he thought everyone was overly concerned about it.

Rather than get visibly annoyed about that, Anakin just offered, "Well, I did learn a few things, at least?"

"Such as?" she asked.

"That we've been looking at things the wrong way when it comes to dealing with the Yuuzhan Vong," he said very seriously. "That it's not fair, or even right, to use the fact that they don't exist in the Force as proof that they're evil. I'm not saying their actions are justified," he went on in a hurry, "but the wrongness of those actions don't have anything to do with their absence from the Force."

"Agreed," Jaina said. "Their actions are pretty good proof in itself."

Someone to this day still hated the Vong. Spoiler: it was Jaina.

~~OMG SPOILERS.~~ Well, she had good reason to, really.

Anakin inclined his head to acknowledge that. "At the moment, I really, really can't argue with you there."

Was there a clear edge of anger in his voice? Well. Yes.

"Need to rant?" Jaina asked, hearing that edge.

"What they did to her," Anakin said, biting off the words. "I felt it. I'm going to do everything I can to make sure she gets better, but . . ."

He bit his lip. "It'll never be the same again, will it?"

Jaina shook her head. "She'll be okay," she said, even if two put of three Tahiris had gone out of their way to test that. "But there's not any going back to the way things were, no."

"I guess they never will." Anakin looked down at his feet and, to his chagrin (and mild confusion), felt the tips of his ears turning red. "Is it weird that I'm not completely sorry about that?"

Jaina tilted her head. "What do you mean?"

"I think I understand her a little better now?"

Oh, look at him being all self-conscious and awkward for reasons he was so not about to express out loud.

Jaina was going to ask anyway, because she honestly didn't recognize this from any of her brothers across any realities. Oh, Solo family. "Okay, what am I missing here?"

Aaaaaaaand now he was rubbing at the back of his neck and getting kind of fidgety. "Just --"

Seriously, Anakin would rather face down a dozen Yuuzhan Vong warriors again.

"We were," he tried, "pretty distant for a while. Or I was, but not any more."

She eyed him. "Are you with Tahiri now?"

It must also suck to have a sister who didn't even know there was a bush to beat around.

"I -- what?"

Embarrassment: an excellent way to distract Anakin from brooding, who knew? His entire face turned red now.

"No, that's not what I meant!" Flail, young Solo. Flail.

Okay, so this wasn't when that whole thing had started, apparently?

"Just curious," she said with a shrug.

"Do you know something," asked Anakin, eyeing her suspiciously (or as suspiciously as he could while trying not to die of mortification), "or is this you getting back at me for being weird about Jag?"

"I just don't think I've ever seen you blush like that." Which totally made this better.

The only thing that could make it worse was if she was taking pictures.

"Only because you think that's what I meant."

Not really, no.

"I thought that's what it meant because you got all fidgety," Jaina countered.

Anakin shook his head. Probably more than was strictly necessary.

"I just never thought of her that way before. That's all."

"Uh huh," she nodded.

Okay, maybe now she was getting him back for the Jag thing.
