Ethics [Thursday, January 17, 2013, 2nd period]

"There's a phrase on this planet that, rough summarized, says that you shouldn't judge someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes," Anakin said. "Now this isn't an invitation to steal your classmates' shoes--" he'd been here long enough to guard against someone taking the assignment far too literally "--it's an attempt to foster understanding. I'll pair you up and over the next week, you must spend a day following the other around, learning about the other classes they take, jobs they might have, hobbies they fill their time with, and so on. We have students from many different universes and times here--what you might take for granted as an obvious thing to do might be something they've never thought of trying."

He glanced down at his list. "And before you ask, the other teachers know about this assignment, so don't worry about bringing your new shadow to class with you. All right, the pairings are : Anna Korlov and Jack Frost, Loki Laufeyson and Madeline Berry, Paddra Nsu-Yeul and Po of Lienid, and Surreal SaDiablo and Victor Mancha. Try not to kill each other."

Victor had gone through a couple of classes with Surreal, and he'd seen her around, but he didn't really know her. But she didn't seem annoying -- dangerous, maybe, but not annoying -- so he figured they'd be fine.

He pondered which day to spend with her. A Tuesday at the shop might work, but then she wouldn't get any classes.

Surreal wasn't sure if she should be annoyed at being paired with some random male - although Victor wasn't hideously objectionable - or relieved that she hadn't gotten stuck with Loki.

She stalked over and sat down on his desk, arms folded. "I'm boring," she said bluntly. "Hope you're not expecting great entertainment."

"I read appliance manuals for fun," Victor offered, sounding only slightly put out by her attitude. "I think we'll be fine."

"Appliance? Like, the little machines?" she asked for clarification, making a vague toaster-sized shape with her hands. "...if I understood the words, I'd probably find it fun, too. It seems like brewing potions, putting things together."

Re: Talk Logistics [1/17]

[personal profile] ultron_junior 2013-01-17 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Like little machines," Victor nodded. "Blenders, microwaves, whatever. I'm good with electronics. I have no idea if it's like potions. That's a magic thing?"

Re: Talk Logistics [1/17]

[identity profile] harpy-daughter.livejournal.com 2013-01-17 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Surreal's lips quirked into a little smile. "Sure, sugar, it's a magic thing," she quipped, turning her hand palm-up and summoning a tiny flame of witchfire to dance above it for a moment. "Potions are just like cooking, or your chemistry, just with a magic push behind them."
ultron_junior: ([pos] smirk)

Re: Talk Logistics [1/17]

[personal profile] ultron_junior 2013-01-17 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Victor smirked smugly back at her, and turned his own hand palm-up. His electrical sparks weren't quite as perfectly shaped as the witchfire, but he figured it'd get the point across.

"So we're both totally average Fandom students," he said. "Great. Wanna come to work with me next week?"

Yeul thought the whole idea sounded rather neat (and the fact that she had never talked to Po only made it more interesting).

She couldn't help but wonder if she'd been rather dull to hang around with though. Her life did not have much in the way of excitement. She had her classes and then everything else was taken as it came. Would that be awful for him?

She hoped not.

"I fear you've found the least interesting partner possible," Po said ruefully, wandering over to Yeul.
pulseof_life: (happy!)

"Have I?" Yeul asked, smiling at Po. "Why do you say that?"

Re: Talk Logistics [1/17]

[identity profile] rings-of-grace.livejournal.com 2013-01-18 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
"I have no job, nor any particularly interesting activities," Po admitted, stretching languidly. "Unless you'd like to watch me train in the salle, which would probably break the monotony of following me from class to class. You, however, have blue hair, and thus I already know you're more interesting than the girls at home."

Re: Talk Logistics [1/17]

[personal profile] pulseof_life 2013-01-18 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Is that all it takes to be interesting?" she asked, mildly amused. Yeul had never heard that before. "I think that watching you train would be fun though I would have no idea what you're doing. I am afraid I do not kep much of a schedule either. I go where I want to, when I wish to, and that is pleasing to me."

Re: Talk Logistics [1/17]

[identity profile] rings-of-grace.livejournal.com 2013-01-18 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's all it takes to be unusual," Po replied easily. "Then it sounds like it might be an easy enough assignment. I have class on Friday, as well, and then my schedule is fairly open -- I keep my time in the salle fairly flexible. When's good for you?"

So, just in general, it was probably a bad sign to be paired with someone named Loki, right? Just based on the name itself.

Maddie hoped he didn't mind dinosaurs.

"Hello, Madeline!" Yes, you have Loki as your partner. Aren't you thrilled?

"You can call me Maddie," she told him. "So you're Loki."

Seriously, parents of the world, what.
abitlowkey: (...seriously?)

"Maddie then," he replied brightly. "Are you fond of birds?"

[identity profile] mummyspromdate.livejournal.com 2013-01-17 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm not not fond of them," she said, because she'd never thought much about them either way. "Why?"
abitlowkey: (about to lie to you)

"I have a pet magpie." A beat. "He's quite temperamental."

Maddie nodded. "I can deal with that. What are your feelings on dinosaurs?"

See, it was hard to have a problem rooming with Gert when she got to say things like that.

Well, at least Anna could see her partner, and he already knew she was a ghost. She looked around for said partner as she thought about the assignment.

"So," Jack said, perching himself comfortably on top of the desk closest to Anna, "I don't suppose you're a fan of snowball fights?"

Really, his shoes weren't exactly the most responsible shoes to have to walk in. Not by any stretch of the imagination.
dressedinblood: (Anna is dubious)

Re: Talk Logistics [1/17]

[personal profile] dressedinblood 2013-01-17 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm not not a fan," Anna said. "I haven't had very many, though." Only child, lake effect weather, horrible mother, fifty-plus years trapped in a house, blah blah blah. "I'm guessing you have a lot of them?"

Re: Talk Logistics [1/17]

[identity profile] nips-your-nose.livejournal.com 2013-01-17 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, I start a lot of them," Jack clarified. "I don't really get many snowballs thrown back at me. You know, for some reason."

But it was fun to watch kids trying to brutalize one another with snow. Funny, that.
