"There's a phrase on this planet that, rough summarized, says that you shouldn't judge someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes," Anakin said. "Now this isn't an invitation to steal your classmates' shoes--" he'd been here long enough to guard against someone taking the assignment far too literally "--it's an attempt to foster understanding. I'll pair you up and over the next week, you must spend a day following the other around, learning about the other classes they take, jobs they might have, hobbies they fill their time with, and so on. We have students from many different universes and times here--what you might take for granted as an obvious thing to do might be something they've never thought of trying."

He glanced down at his list. "And before you ask, the other teachers know about this assignment, so don't worry about bringing your new shadow to class with you. All right,the pairings are : Anna Korlov and Jack Frost, Loki Laufeyson and Madeline Berry, Paddra Nsu-Yeul and Po of Lienid, and Surreal SaDiablo and Victor Mancha. Try not to kill each other."

"Appliance? Like, the little machines?" she asked for clarification, making a vague toaster-sized shape with her hands. "...if I understood the words, I'd probably find it fun, too. It seems like brewing potions, putting things together."

"Like little machines," Victor nodded. "Blenders, microwaves, whatever. I'm good with electronics. I have no idea if it's like potions. That's a magic thing?"

Surreal's lips quirked into a little smile. "Sure, sugar, it's a magic thing," she quipped, turning her hand palm-up and summoning a tiny flame of witchfire to dance above it for a moment. "Potions are just like cooking, or your chemistry, just with a magic push behind them."

Victor smirked smugly back at her, and turned his own hand palm-up. His electrical sparks weren't quite as perfectly shaped as the witchfire, but he figured it'd get the point across.

"So we're both totally average Fandom students," he said. "Great. Wanna come to work with me next week?"

Sorry, Victor, Surreal is going to try and poke at your arm. "Do that again," she said, squinting at his hand. "I want to try and replicate it."

...oh, wait, there'd been more to that, right? "Yeah, sure," she continued absently. "I don't think he realizes we pretty much spend Thursday together anyway. Aren't you in my other class, too?"

"It's electricity," Victor explained as he flexed his fingers and sent out a couple more pulses. "I can control metal, too, but I figure you probably want to keep your jewelry."

He glanced up from his fingers to nod at her question. "And yeah, we're both in the pop culture thing. So technically we could have dinner tonight and call it good."

Which wasn't really what he wanted to do -- shut up, he liked showing off the shop -- but if they were talking options, he figured he'd get it on the table.

"I don't think I can get my Craft to do lightning," she said regretfully. "That would be a handy tool to have."

She glanced back over her shoulder at Anakin. "Yeah, I think just counting today wouldn't count in his book. I work Monday, but that's it. What works for you?"

"I have flight class Monday and work Tuesday, that's it," Victor said, with his own glance to Anakin. He suspected Surreal was right about what would count. "Maybe I could hang out with you at work after flight class, and then you could do the same thing at the repair shop?"

Wait, where did Surreal work? He fleetingly wondered if he should have asked that first.
