Detention, Depths of the Castle, Friday

So, one of the important things to realize about detention was that the monotony of everyone's daily lives was part of the punishment. That meant that even though someone had died yesterday, the day's schedule didn't change a bit.

After all, most of your little lives just weren't that important in the grand scheme of things.

Bobby was still clutching on to Sookie's body as if his own life depended on it, the only acknowledgement that anything beyond her existed being the scowl he directed at anyone who he thought might be coming to take her away.

"Bobby." Kennedy's voice was as guarded as the way she carried herself as she approached him. "Yo, Bobby."

Hopefully Kennedy wasn't expecting anything resembling scintillating conversation. Or even witty banter. Because all she was going to get was an icy (literally) glare.

It had been a long time since they'd had any of that, hadn't it? Witty banter was in short supply. That look on Bobby's face actually hurt.

Your friends never used to look at you like that, snarled the little corner of her mind that she'd managed to keep her own. Dumbass. If they're not scared of you, they hate you. And you thought Buffy was harsh on you guys?

"Not here to take her away," Kennedy promised, holding her hands up. "Just came to check up on you."

He was fine, Kennedy. Couldn't you see how absolutely fine he was? He and Sookie were finally together now, after all.

"Dammit, Bobby, I know you're in there somewhere," Kennedy insisted. So frustrating -- she could punch a hole through the wall if she wanted to, but she couldn't break through to talk to him. And she really, really wanted to get through to him. Willow had that telepathy thing she did, but all Kennedy had was--

Oh god, Red, I miss you, she thought, a realization that got caught up with all the other emotions the curse kept trying to suppress. That corner of her mind, the little part that was still completely her, grabbed onto the emotion and wouldn't let go. Come on, Kenn, remember what you came back here to do?

"I'm sorry," she said gruffly, dropping into a crouch in front of Bobby and trying to meet his eyes. "Really am."

His blank expression flickered, briefly, but the message was clear: he didn't believe you, Kennedy.

The message was very clear. She might be arrogant, bossy, and irritating, but it had always been a point of pride for Kennedy to be someone her friends could count on.

Hadn't that just been blown all to hell?

"Fine," she said in a tight voice that might have been anger or might have been the verge of tears, and stood. "Stay like that. See if I care."

Karla wasn't even going to approach Bobby. She--couldn't. Not after yesterday. Not with Sookie lying lifeless in his arms.

But she could try to talk to him another way, while her attention was ostensibly taken up with something else.

*Bobby? Bobby it's me, Karla. I need to talk to you.*

Bobby gave no outward sign that he'd 'heard' her at all. Someone definitely had, though.

He's a little busy at the moment, came a somewhat scornful voice that Karla might recognize. While the piece of Emma that lived in Bobby's head had no telepathy of her own, she was counting on Karla's powers being able to to pick up what she had to say.

Emma, huh? Well, that was new and different. Karla wasn't even going to ask. *Well, for all that his grieving and keening is getting accomplished, I have news from the Resistance. Considering it involves possibly getting out of this Hell-hole, I think he might be interested.*

Not so new, really. But then, it had been years since Bobby had seen Karla, so... new to her, anyway.

I'll be sure to pass it on, if he decides to start listening to anyone anytime soon. He frustrated the hell out of her most times, and she resented being stuck in his head, but when it came down to it, for all intents and purposes, they were a team of sorts. Her continued survival depended on his head remaining more or less intact, after all.

Yeah. Karla hadn't gotten many updates about Bobby's mental health. Or the deteriorating state of it.

*Tomorrow. We're coming in tomorrow. Have him be as ready as he can be. Because there probably won't be a stone left standing by the time we're done.*
