Detention, Depths of the Castle, Friday

So, one of the important things to realize about detention was that the monotony of everyone's daily lives was part of the punishment. That meant that even though someone had died yesterday, the day's schedule didn't change a bit.

After all, most of your little lives just weren't that important in the grand scheme of things.

"Dammit, Bobby, I know you're in there somewhere," Kennedy insisted. So frustrating -- she could punch a hole through the wall if she wanted to, but she couldn't break through to talk to him. And she really, really wanted to get through to him. Willow had that telepathy thing she did, but all Kennedy had was--

Oh god, Red, I miss you, she thought, a realization that got caught up with all the other emotions the curse kept trying to suppress. That corner of her mind, the little part that was still completely her, grabbed onto the emotion and wouldn't let go. Come on, Kenn, remember what you came back here to do?

"I'm sorry," she said gruffly, dropping into a crouch in front of Bobby and trying to meet his eyes. "Really am."

His blank expression flickered, briefly, but the message was clear: he didn't believe you, Kennedy.

The message was very clear. She might be arrogant, bossy, and irritating, but it had always been a point of pride for Kennedy to be someone her friends could count on.

Hadn't that just been blown all to hell?

"Fine," she said in a tight voice that might have been anger or might have been the verge of tears, and stood. "Stay like that. See if I care."
