Practical Squiring, Thursday

"The Others take this heat," Jaime said, digging at his collar with his left hand. So, perhaps full armor with the slightly less white thanks to Fandom cloak had not been the best of ideas. But, a man had to look the proper knight, did he not?

Not even the wonderful cool air they pumped into the buildings helped.

"Welcome," he said, louder now. "I am Ser Jaime Lannister of the King's Guard and I will be teaching you the duties of a squire. But first I would like to know your name and house--" He eyed a familiar sigil for a moment. "If you have one at all. I would also like to know why you have decided to take this class so that we don't waste time on those who lack the commitment necessary for the role."

There was a fair number of girls in the class, which made the corner of his mouth turn up into a grin. Oh, the wench would have loved this.

"Who will be first?"

"I'm Alex Aaron," Alex said, "and...House of War?" If it sounded like a question, it was because he wasn't really sure if that was the information Jaime was looking for. He'd be happy to explain if need be. "I thought I should take this class because I know a lot about fighting but haven't had a chance to learn a lot of the sort of...more squire-y parts, and it's not like I have one. So. Yeah." Did that make sense? He hoped it made sense.

"My name is Cassidy and I'm from House Dharo." That sounded so strange to say. "I'm taking this class because I'm always looking for more knowledge to better serve my people."

"I'm Luke Castellan and I'm from House...Olympian." Yeah, he'd go with that. "I thought this class could be useful since I somehow end up in fights a lot and could probably use a refresher on the more technical parts of it."

"I'm Alec Lightwood," Alec said, and gave a wary look around the room (and his Sensor) before continuing. "House Nephilim."

LOOK, ALEC, THE WORLD DIDN'T EVEN BLOW UP OR ANYTHING BECAUSE YOU'D SAID THAT. GASP.

"And I'm always interested in tactics and codes and that sort of thing."

"I'm Kate Daniels. Of House 'None'."

"I'm in this class probably because my guardian likes to think he knows best. I was a Squire of the Order of Knights of Merciful Aid for two years." She'd already proven her worth to a version of Jaime, but she recalled he'd had two hands when he was challenging her in the middle of a picnic.

"Hi, I'm Juliet Darling," Juliet said, polished as usual. "From House Darling."

Which felt really natural in her mouth, even if she'd never said it exactly that way before.

"I took this class because ... I'm not sure. I like horses."

One would have to excuse Stannis for a moment while he grappled with his confusion, which he happened to be wearing all over his stern face. He was trying to make sense of all of this before his turn came up, and it was a bit of a struggle.

"Stannis Baratheon," he said, carefully, as he eyed this Ser Jaime Lannister with the suspicion granted a man who one assumes is some sort of liar and/or fraud, "of House Baratheon. I know how to squire, I was taught when I was a boy, so I suppose I am here because I am expected to be."

He might be a little bitter about squiring at his age, and this whole Lannister business around the island didn't help his mood much.

Nothing really ever helped his mood much.

"I'm Mercedes Thompson and I... don't really have a House," she said. "Not the way you mean it, anyway. I suppose you could say that I'm of the Blackfeet tribe out of Montana and my father is Joe Old Coyote, but mostly, I'm just Mercy."

"I wanted to take this course because I've always been fascinated by knights and squires and all that. From a historical perspective, at least."

"Ulrik, of House Oldenburg," Ulrik introduced himself. "I'm here because- well, as a younger son it's always been expected that I'd serve in the army, and even if that may no longer be my fate as things stand now, the skills may come in handy some day."

Tyrion planned to visit his brother after class to offer helpful advice, or at least get him drunk.

Or possibly just to laugh at him.

As it was, none of those things would happen. Because just as Tyrion stepped through the door and opened his mouth to formulate a greeting, the island's magic seized him. Tyrion vanished, and a rabbit that made up in temper and volume of fur what it lacked in size stood ion his place.

The dwarf lionhead rabbit -- very clever, Fandom -- took stock of its situation for a moment, then charged right at the shoes of the man in white armor. If rabbits could talk, it would be swearing to all the old gods, the new, and a few who had not yet been invented.
