Library, Sunday 05/06

After making sure everything in the library was in its rightful place, Raven settled behind the desk to go over what she was planning to take with her when she joined Karla in Kaeleer. She thought she could feel a certain malevolence coming from the section containing books on flowers for some reason, but dismissed it as her imagination when no roses or gerbera attacked.

No one had probably noticed it yesterday, but there had been an ape in the library. An orang-utan, to be specific, and he had only been there briefly. But something had brought the Librarian back to Fandom High, and that was the unmistakable call of untended books. Not completely untended, of course, but he knew a library that had been without a librarian for more than a week when he saw one. It turns out that the L-Space provided to be very helpful, and he was back, this time to stake his claim.

So please to not be minding the orang-utan emerging from Special Collections with a bunch of books underneath his arm, swinging up to the aides' desk, and putting them on top of it with a very clear instruction of, "Ook ook. Ook ook ook."

And then he took a second to inspect the aide on duty today, rubbing at his chin with a big finger and gave a relatively approving, "Ook."

The Librarian narrowed his eyes at the girl for a moment; he was, after all, part of a very special collective of Librarians that had the ability to cross the L-space; he hardly needed permission to get into the Special Collections. Clearly, he would need to meet with these aides and let them know what was what if he was going to keep this library going.

He sighed, headily, shaking his head, and he patted the books. "Oook ook," he said, pointing to the regular shelves. "Ook ook ook ook."

A few little books had lost their way, and he'd put them back himself if there wasn't a nest to be built in his new Office.

Nodding in approval of the task being taken up, the Librarian waved his hands a little to show that that was all. "Ook ook," he said, and then put his knuckles to the ground to help him set off in the right direction for the office, where he would be if he was needed for anything. "Ook ook ook."

The problem with having a new roommate (and no possessions of her own) meant that Thelma Bates didn't have anything to read. She couldn't just take and read Karolina's things, that would have been rude.

So Thelma came to the library that Sunday. And after arriving and seeing the pretty dark-haired girl behind the desk, she couldn't help but grin and let out a "Well hello there," which she thought was mainly to herself.

"Oh. Oh!" Thelma said in a moment of surprise. "Sorry, I should've expected. Hi. I suppose you can, actually. I'm rather new and hoping to avoid wandering into the sections with all the boring books."

She recovered from her surprise and gave Raven a smile.

"Between you and me," Thelma said, smiling, "I tend to go for the books that are a little more spicy. Though the less blokes in them the better, if you get my meaning. But right now, I think I could do more with learning about the library worker."

"Thelma Bates," she introduced, her expression still quite pleasant. "Fresh off the boat, as it were. Though I don't think people still take boat trips to America, it would take an awful long time. Fresh off the plane and subsequent bus ride doesn't have the same ring, though."

Sorry Raven, Thelma tended to ramble.

"That's it," Thelma said with a nod. She paused momentarily then asked "You're not a witch, are you? Fairy? Something like that?"

"I just ask, since the other option was you were dead like me," Thelma said. "Not that I particularly wanted you to be or anything, just like to get sorted out why people can see me, when they can. Why their third eye is open and all that."

"Oh, just finishing up school," Thelma said. "I've decided to remain on this mortal coil as long as possible. Not quite ready for the pearly gates. And so, I suppose I need to finish school first, and this place came with a very heavenly recommendation."

She even laughed at her own awful joke.

And he was (finally!), swinging past the desk and into his new office after dropping off some tasks for the Librarian's Aide. It was true that the library had only been Librarian-less for a week, maybe two, or so, but there was still a lot of work to do, and the first order of business appeared to be turning the space underneath the desk into a more comfortable nest.

The Librarian swung around the office, pleased with what he saw. There might even be enough space for a hammock in here!
