Ethics [Thursday, March 8, 2012, 1st period]

When Anakin swept into the classroom this morning, he was accompanied by a half dozen droid babies, all holding little stuffed Ewoks and glancing around the classroom with curious, if slightly dead, eyes.

"It's that time of year again," Anakin said, not even trying to hide his glee. "Ethics in practice. It's easy to decide on a code of action that you think will define your life--it's much different to enforce that on a small, sentient being. Thus the droid babies. For the next week, you and a partner--except for you, Miss McGill, and I apologize for that--will be parents to these droid babies. They are approximately six months old, and are crawling and able to understand--" if not exactly respond correctly to, "--the word no. You must be constantly vigilent to make sure they are well-fed, clean, sleeping correctly and not putting electronics in their mouths."

Anakin would never understand human babies' obsessions with chewing on wires.

"Oh, and there will be one more assignment this week. There will be an NPC a photographer next Monday to take you and your droid child's photograph, just to be absolutely sure that you haven't foisted your assignment off onto your partner and to give you the opportunity to take your droid into unfamiliar circumstances."

And because he and Jaye shouldn't be allowed to talk to each other. "Listen for your names and come pick up your assignment."

The last time Gabrielle had had a kid, it hadn't gone so well.

. . . um. This droid baby wasn't evil, was it?

"So," Alex said, "do you know anything about kids? Because I really don't."

"I've had to take care of a few," Gabrielle replied. And by 'take care of,' she did not mean 'toss a hundred feet into the air long enough to knock out half a dozen soldiers,' Xena. "They're really not that terrifying. I mean, sure, they're tiny and helpless and reliant on you to take care of them, but . . ."

She trailed off.

"That's not really helping it sound less terrifying, is it?"

"Well, I don't really get scared, but...no, not really," Alex told her.

Billy didn't see Dorothy in class, so he went to get the droid himself, handling it--her carefully. This had so much potential to go terribly wrong.

It was all Puck could do not to accidentally lift the baby up incorrectly.

It would be an interesting weekend. Though he knew how to hold a football and apparently that was all that mattered with these things, sometimes.

"I never thought I'd be a teenage father," Dave said, staring at the baby like it might explode. "Especially not just because I took a class."

"It wasn't in my plans either," Kate assured him, similarly not looking like she was intending to go touching it any time soon.

"I know nothing about babies."

"Yeah, me either. What about droids? Any experience there?" Dave asked hopefully. He had no clue if that might help, but it kind of make sense that it could.

Lots of qualifiers there, yes.

"Technology and I don't get along either." In fact, it tended to go on the fritz more often than not around her, courtesy of having a little too much magic. This was probably doomed to go badly.

"... I feel like its staring through me." Creepy.

Re: Pick up your droid: Ryan & Simon

[identity profile] serial-quitter.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, this should be interesting," said Ryan, peering down at the droid baby without picking it up. "I don't know anything about babies. I was an only child."

Re: Pick up your droid: Ryan & Simon

[identity profile] forhisfriends.livejournal.com 2012-03-09 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"I have a little sister," Simon replied. However, he'd been about five when his sister had been born, so... it didn't come with much useful experience.

He was eyeing the droid a little warily, yes. "But... I don't think that helps me."

[Apologies, I was way under the weather yesterday and forgot to ping in here!]

"I guess it can't be too hard to keep it alive for a week," said Ryan. And right on cue, just as Ryan was thinking that it couldn't be that bad of an assignment, the droid baby started to howl.

Sam might've already been thinking of how she could get the droid baby to make penny tees and eat dog food.

This kid might be doomed.

Might?

"I do not want a child!" Loki squawked indignantly.
hurtingzeebo: (I don't like you)

"Would you rather have my fist up your nose?" Sam asked.

Re: Pick up your droid: Stacey

[identity profile] ihavediabetes.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Stacey didn't have a problem with the assignment at all. She thought it was sad that she had to be a single mom for a week, and this was going to put a big crimp in her social life, but she was sure she could handle it.

What could go wrong?
