When Anakin swept into the classroom this morning, he was accompanied by a half dozen droid babies, all holding little stuffed Ewoks and glancing around the classroom with curious, if slightly dead, eyes.

"It's that time of year again," Anakin said, not even trying to hide his glee. "Ethics in practice. It's easy to decide on a code of action that you think will define your life--it's much different to enforce that on a small, sentient being. Thus the droid babies. For the next week, you and a partner--except for you, Miss McGill, and I apologize for that--will be parents to these droid babies. They are approximately six months old, and are crawling and able to understand--" if not exactly respond correctly to, "--the word no. You must be constantly vigilent to make sure they are well-fed, clean, sleeping correctly and not putting electronics in their mouths."

Anakin would never understand human babies' obsessions with chewing on wires.

"Oh, and there will be one more assignment this week. There will be ~~an NPC~~ a photographer next Monday to take you and your droid child's photograph, just to be absolutely sure that you haven't foisted your assignment off onto your partner and to give you the opportunity to take your droid into unfamiliar circumstances."

And because he and Jaye shouldn't be allowed to talk to each other. "Listen for your names and come pick up your assignment."

Simon's eyes widened. It was actually quite a sight on someone who seemed to look at the world with huge eyes just in general.

"Uh."

He supposed he should've been picking the droid up now, except he was overcome with the belief he'd instantly drop it.

Ryan was trying to think of a way to shut off the droid baby, but it was hard to think with all the crying and wailing. "Maybe there's some sort of off switch? But where would it be?"

Simon blinked at that, then shook his head, with a glance toward Anakin.

"I don't think you should do that. It –– I think it might be against the rules."

Even if the wailing was horrible.

Ryan winced. "Yeah, I need to get a good grade in this class. No using the shut-off switch, then. Maybe it's hungry? I've got a granola bar in my backpack," she suggested.

And now Simon was giving her a look like he wasn't sure if she was maybe joking or something. "I don't think babies eat granola bars," he hazarded. "I think we might have to buy baby food."

"Right. What was I thinking?" said Ryan, cringing. "It probably doesn't have any teeth, I suppose. But that should be easy enough to check..."

With that, Ryan used her fingers to check the droid baby's gums. The baby stopped crying and started sucking on her finger. "Or maybe I can just do this until we figure out what to feed it," said Ryan, feeling a sense of relief.

Simon really shared that feeling. He was already fearing for his hearing during this task.

"We should figure out other things too," he pointed out. "Like –– like shifts. And maybe what to call... it."

"I don't have any classes until Tuesday, and I don't have anything planned this weekend, so watching the baby won't be a problem," said Ryan.

"I don't have class until Tuesday, either," Simon replied with a small nod. "We can... switch, on Monday? When the photographer comes."

"Sounds like a plan," said Ryan, smiling. "As for a name, how about..." She paused, thinking a moment. "I know! How about Morgan? It's a nice, solid name."

"Morgan," Simon repeated, considering it. Then he nodded, and even gave her a twitch of a brief smile. "It's a good name."
