When Anakin swept into the classroom this morning, he was accompanied by a half dozen droid babies, all holding little stuffed Ewoks and glancing around the classroom with curious, if slightly dead, eyes.

"It's that time of year again," Anakin said, not even trying to hide his glee. "Ethics in practice. It's easy to decide on a code of action that you think will define your life--it's much different to enforce that on a small, sentient being. Thus the droid babies. For the next week, you and a partner--except for you, Miss McGill, and I apologize for that--will be parents to these droid babies. They are approximately six months old, and are crawling and able to understand--" if not exactly respond correctly to, "--the word no. You must be constantly vigilent to make sure they are well-fed, clean, sleeping correctly and not putting electronics in their mouths."

Anakin would never understand human babies' obsessions with chewing on wires.

"Oh, and there will be one more assignment this week. There will be ~~an NPC~~ a photographer next Monday to take you and your droid child's photograph, just to be absolutely sure that you haven't foisted your assignment off onto your partner and to give you the opportunity to take your droid into unfamiliar circumstances."

And because he and Jaye shouldn't be allowed to talk to each other. "Listen for your names and come pick up your assignment."

Sam might've already been thinking of how she could get the droid baby to make penny tees and eat dog food.

This kid might be doomed.

Might?

"I do not want a child!" Loki squawked indignantly.

"Would you rather have my fist up your nose?" Sam asked.

Loki squinted at her fist as if pondering the possibility of that happening. "You may care for the creature. You're the girl."

"Wow," Sam said. "You're really wrong."

"You're not a girl?" Loki asked dryly. "You have certainly accomplished the illusion quite convincingly."

There had been rumors from time to time. "My being a girl is not a reason for me to do all the work," Sam told him, sickeningly sweetly. "And if you want to stay a boy, you won't keep suggesting that it is."

"You have a mother instinct!" Said the kid who birthed a horse in a former life.

Oh, gods.

And there was her fist threatening his nose again. "You take that back!"

"Never!" This could never end well.

No, it really couldn't. Sam let out her most intimidating war bellow. It'd been known to scare off even of the hardiest big biker types back in Seattle, and had once even driven a mammoth off a cliff.

Loki put a finger to his ear, shaking his head. "Are you well and done, girl?"

Sam reached for the nearest thing that had a good weight for hitting Loki with.

This happened to be the droid baby, which promptly started wailing.

"Ew!" she yelled and thrust it at Loki. "Take it! Take it!"

"What?!" Loki shoved the poor thing back at her. "You can't make me!"

"I can if I shove it up your butt!"

The droid baby wailed louder. Some might say it was likely cursing the callous universe that had lumped it with these two.

Then it smacked at Loki with its stuffed Ewok doll.

"You can not!" Loki shielded his head from the Ewok doll, shoving it back at her. "I am a god!"

"Oh please," Sam said, still holding the baby at arms length. "You are so not that good looking."

"I am too!" Wait. What?

"You have stupid hair," Sam told him. "Tell him, baby."

The baby whacked at Loki with the doll again.

Hey, maybe there was an upside to this assignment.

Loki made a noise of frustration, stepping away from the flailing creature. And the droid baby.

"He is yours!"

"Oh great. Yet another father ditching his kids." Sam pouted at the droid baby. "Alright, DB. Hope you like ketchup packets."

DB was, of course, short for Droid Baby.
