Library is Open, Wednesday 2/1

Zero opens the Library and heads back into the stacks, returning a few minutes later with that which she sought: The Amethyst Flower, the sequel to The Jade Flower. Today, there will be silly romance novels, and it will be good.

Chapter 21. Running Wolf MacGregor fights the evil sheikh while Ammy singlehandedly holds off all his men. There are those moves Zero knew she had to have. He's stabbed in a way that Zero is pretty sure should be fatal, but Ammy doesn't seem too concerned. Huh.

Eighth strides into the library and sees the young woman intently reading. "I hate to bother you," she says smoothly. "But could you help me for a moment?"

Darn. Just when she thought the big secret was going to be revealed. Zero looked up and said, "Of course, professor. How can I help you?"

"Yes, thank you, I'm looking for any texts that you might have on identity crises," she asks blithely.

"Identity crises...hmm. What would that be under, psychology? You'll have to check the card catalogue, I'm afraid." Zero desperately hopes Dr. Carter knows how to use the card catalogue.

"The..." she says, shocked. "The card catalogue? You don't have a computer database?"

"Um. No. That would take skills, which we do not have. Special Collections is on the computer, but that's guesswork at best." Zero indicates a corner that remains dusty and ominous-looking, no matter how many people visit it. "The card catalogue's over there. Is...that a problem?"

"I just... well," she says, flustered, "I haven't used a card catalogue since I was in college ... oh really!!!"

Zero looks around for anyone else who could help--she really wants to find out what Running Wolf MacGregor's secret is. Seeing no one handy, she sighs and marks her place before standing up. "Come along, then."

"Thank you," she says. "Identity crises, please."

"Yes, ma'am." Zero pulls out the Subject: H-K drawer and flips through it for a few moments. "Here we are. Identity crises. Looks like they're in several different sections."

Eighth sighs and wonders why on earth she decided to go look at information stored in tactile objects.

"Well, let me see the call numbers then," she says. "And I do thank you for your assistance," she adds as an afterthought.

Zero steps aside so she can get at the cards, and shoves the notepad and pencil they keep on top of the card catalogue closer to her. "It's what we're here for. Don't hesitate to ask if you need anything else."

Rory's back to typing on her laptop again, though she's got a whole shifty-eyed thing going on.

"Working on stuff for study group?," Angela asks, when she's pretty sure Zero's out of earshot.

"Uh huh. I'm going shopping on my own this afternoon," Rory said quietly. "Making a list."

"Let me know if there's anything I can help with," Angela says, also quietly. "I didn't realize there was anything we didn't get yesterday."

"Angel needs different snacks than the rest of us," Rory said lightly."I'm getting that when I stock up for Vladdie, too. And then I thought I'd check in at the town...thing where they have lots and lots of study aides?" She bit her lip, realizing how badly she was failing at speaking in code.

It takes Angela a long moment to get it, but the lightbulb finally comes on over her head. (Or it would if she were a cartoon, which she isn't. Usually.)

"Oh!" she says, then scribbles a single word on a piece of paper and passes it to Rory. Blood Gulch Arms? Will you be okay there alone?

Rory smiled, and shook her head.

Clinic. I figure I might be able to avoid Dr. House and Dr. Wilson if I go there, since they know me.

She passed it back to Angela.

Angela nods.

"That makes way more sense than what I was thinking," she says aloud.

"By the way, I skipped lunch with Belthazor. Just ... BAD idea. Y'know?"

Rory sighed in relief. "Good. I mean, not that I have any say over who you date and who you don't, but...there was just a lot that could go wrong there."

"Yeah, seriously." She makes a face. "Marty called from his sickbed to tell me it was a bad idea. And that he wasn't going to tell me who to date."

Rory raised an eyebrow. "Yeah, that's kind of indicative."

"Just a little," Angela agrees. "Though we're trying to be friends. Apparently." She runs a hand through her hair. "How are things with you and Logan now, anyhow?"
